BALOOS Buccaneers DAY CAMP    We had a great turnout with 12 scouts taking part in all the fun at Baloo’s Bucaneers camp this summer. The weather was hot, which made swimming one of the favorite activities each day. A lot of cubs earned their BSA Junior Marksman badge at the BB gun range and I know I saw several bullseyes at the archery range. These cubs will never forget the summer of -07.

Family Campout at Kensington  The weather was hot, and the skies were clear. Before dinner everyone worked up quite a sweat in a hotly contested tug-o-war game. After the cubs had their showdown the cubmaster nearly lost it to the cubs until the rest of the dads joined in to save the day. I think the dads were starting to get pretty competitive with each other at the end. We’ll have to settle this the next time. After all that hard fun the cubs found a way to cool down when they discovered THE PUMP. A battle royale ensued as they blasted each other with cold water from the well. After dinner the camp fire was stoked up high and we gorged on smores while the legend of THE SKUNK MONKEY came to life. I don’t think anyone ventured outside alone after the fire went down. Too bad, because the skies were so clear the Milky Way could be seen stretching across the sky.

Fishing Derby
Our 2007 Fishing Derby started out slow, with everyone searching the water for the best place to cast. But it finished with a flurry, with the catches coming faster than the camera could take pictures. At the end of the catch everyone was eager to get a hand on the bucket as our deadliest catch was released to the sea.
Bike Rodeo Sept 22: Add Another Belt Loop!
On Saturday, Sept 22 from 12 pm to 3 pm we will have a bike rodeo in the Country Oaks parking lot. Come and put your bicycling skills to the test. Are you good enough to deliver that newspaper on target, or will Mr. Zavinsky have to fetch his paper off the roof? Who will be the fastest through the slalom course? You might learn some things about bike maintenance and safety in the process. While having all this fun you will also satisfy the requirements for earning the bicycling belt loop, as well as some of the requirements for the pin. So, bring your bike and join the fun.

Soap Box Derby (Cubmobiles)
We are planning to hold the cubmobile race on November 4. We are still waiting for final approval, but the planned location is in the parking lot at St Mary's Catholic church. The time will be on Sunday after all masses are finished. This will be an exciting event where each den builds a cubmobile that each scout will drive in a race downhill. This will be a blast for the kids and it is good publicity for helping the pack grow.
Boy Scout Campout Invitations for September
This is your opportunity to satisfy your Webelos overnight campout requirement so you can cross over early next Spring. Troop 272 is inviting Webelos to camp out with them at Kensington on Sept 22. Troop 172 is inviting all Wolf, Bear and Webelos to join them for the day on Sept 29, with the Webelos staying over night. If you want to learn to tie knots, cut wood and build fires, then contact the Cubmaster ASAP, so I can tell them you are coming.
