Chris Jones & Word of Praise was birthed in the heart of Minister Christopher Jones and by his obedience to God was established in the summer of 1991 in Highland Park, Michigan, a suburb of the gospel mecca Detroit, Michigan. Chris Jones & Word of Praise is a community based choir whose mission is to share the love of Jesus Christ through song.

The music of Chris Jones & Word of Praise via the Tyscot Record Label provides an old school vibe with an urban new school sound. Their music appeals to audiences young and old with sounds of bumpin’ beats and even grandpa’s quartet spice. Chris Jones & Word of Praise has a sound that is pleasing to every musical palate and has a musical mix that is on the cutting edge of gospel music.

Chris Jones & Word of Praise has graced the stage with some of gospel’s premier musical talents such as John P. Kee, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Hezekiah Walker, Karen Clark-Sheard, Rance Allen, Tye Tribett, Donnie McClurkin, Israel Houghton, J.Moss, Kierra Kiki Sheard, Mary Mary, Ricky Dillard, Marvin Sapp, Kirk Franklin, Vanessa Bell Armstrong and many more. Their Travels include churches and concerts halls in Ontario, Canada, Chicago, IL, Raleigh-Durham, NC, Atlanta, GA, Buffalo, NY, Cleveland, OH and numerous churches in their home city, Detroit, Michigan.

Recently, Chris Jones & Word of Praise embarked on special crusade to Houston, Texas. They held a Sunday morning church service at the Houston Astrodome and the Houston Reliance Center to encourage the hearts of the victims of hurricane Katrina. They ministered to thousands of evacuees in song and through the spoken word letting them know that if God can bring you to it He will bring you through it and He is “Paving the Way”. Chris Jones & Word of Praise are all about outreach. Each year on July 4th they hold an outdoor concert to benefit the city of Highland Park, Michigan. At Christmas time, they adopt families who are less fortunate to help them to have a happy holiday season.

Minister Chris Jones has many accomplishments to be associated to his name. He has written for artists such as Beverly Crawford and has done arrangements and contributed his composing abilities to many projects. Minister Jones gets back to his musical roots on the project entitled “Detroit Sings NU Hymns” on the Tyscot record label where he lends lead vocals to the old favorite “I Know It Was The Blood” and arranged another selection on that same project. In the year 2000 brothers Chris & Stan Jones brought a new sound to gospel with the group The Wordd. The project entitled “How U Gonna Live” produced by Grammy Award winner Tony Rich on Myrrh Records (a division of Word Entertainment) received rave reviews. It was described by Gospel Flava.com as “…an edge yet unheard in Gospel.” In 2001 The Wordd was granted the honor of being included in the hit gospel compellation CD “Wow Gospel 2001”.

In 2003, the song “Like a Rock” took the nation by storm. It still remains requested daily at radio stations across the nation. The song “Like a Rock” was included on the nationally distributed compellation CD “Gospel Radio Hits”. Another selection from the “Like a Rock” CD entitled “Exalt the King” was included on the “Nothing but Worship” compellation CD which was also distributed nationally. February 28, 2006 the highly anticipated sophomore release “Dance” hit stores around the world. In promoting the new release “Dance” Chris Jones & Word of Praise have preformed for live television on WDIV Channel 4 in Detroit and on WTCT-TV which has a potentially world-wide audience via their satellite network of stations.

To witness the awesomely anointed music ministry of Chris Jones & Word of Praise is an opportunity to have an encounter with the electrifying power of Jesus Christ. Chris Jones & Word of Praise is spreading the message of a risen saviour and bringing hope to a dying world, with the goal to give God praise in all that they do.

Minister Christopher Jones & Rock Ministries are making history with a fresh, new concept entitled, “Making the Choir”. The “Making the Choir” youth choir competition allows space for the talented youth of the inner city and surrounding communities to be showcased in a way never before thought of, until now. Musicians and Singers ages ten to eighteen will come from near and far to compete for the ultimate goal of becoming apart of the elite group chosen to be “The Choir”. Once “The Choir” is established, there will be much preparation leading to a Live Recording of this dynamic group of young people.

The vision of Minister Jones is to give youth a positive avenue in which to share their talents with the world and to uncover talents within young people that may otherwise go unnoticed. It is our desire to provide this outlet to the youth at large to let them know that there are positive ways in which to devote their energies. With all of the negative influences in the world today, we know that the “Making the Choir” youth choir competition will make a positive impact on the youth in the inner city and surrounding communities. It is our goal to make this event a success for the community, our contributors and most of all the young talented singers and musicians.
