Welcome to the Stockbridge Area Arts Council Web Site!

Formed in 1990, the Stockbridge Area Arts Council (SAAC) in Stockbridge, Michigan is a nonprofit, volunteer run organization that provides art and cultural events within the Stockbridge area and schools.

Stockbridge, Michigan is located at the junction of M-52 and M-106, linking the I-94 and I-96 freeways. Stockbridge is a quiet, historically agricultural town that has grown in recent years from the sprawl of suburban Lansing and Ann Arbor. The Arts Council's aim is to continue to grow with our community to sponsor cultural programs that provide entertainment, education and enjoyment.

Through support of our local sponsors, the Arts Council provides a variety of music and fine arts events throughout the year. The majority of our programs are held at the Historic Stockbridge Township Hall (pictured). The Arts Council has purchased a sound system, improved lighting and provided a grand piano for the Township Hall, where it presents professional musicians in concert. Our music programs have ranged from classical to bluegrass to ragtime to folk.

The Arts Council provides financial and administrative support to theStockbridge Area Artists, a group of amateur and professional artists who present their work in juried competitions at the Township Hall and elsewhere. In 1999 the group established the Ron Fillmore Memorial Art Shows. The shows, held in February and June at the town hall, provide fine artists with an opportunity to exhibit their artwork within the community.

In 1999 the Arts Council sponsored an international event presenting the Belgium Boys Choir of Waterloo, Les Pastoureaux. The Arts Council arranged for housing for the 60-member choir, and the community was treated to a free concert.

In this site you'll find information about the arts council, a list of upcoming events, ticket information and how you can become a sponsor.

In Partnership With Our Schools

The Arts Council has helped sponsor programs in Stockbridge schools. Over the years students have participated in and learned about modern dance and ballet, opera, theater, cultural music and the visual arts. SAAC sponsorship has given music assemblies for the elementary schools, and fine arts scholarships have been provided for graduating seniors interested in pursuing an arts education.

In March, 2004 and 2005 the Council sponsored an Empty Bowls dinner. In partnership with the community and Stockbridge elementary art classes, ceramic bowls were created and donated to the event. Funds raised by the dinner went to Outreach, a local organization that provides finances, food and clothing to local families in need.
