ABOUT OUR PROGRAM Halloween has always been our biggest fund raiser and is the basis for our Teen Club. This has been our most effective way of reaching teens and ensuring that they want to continue with our program because each year gets bigger and better. So please don't be frightened away by Our appearance. We are located in Macomb County,Michigan and are a non profit orginization. We have been working with teens and preteens in our local area about the last 9 yrs. They get to learn various skills and it helps keep them off the streets and out of trouble during Halloween time. We currently have about 70 teens and pre-teens working with us and hope to get some community assistance so that more kids will be able to join us and we can provide year round programs for our tweens and teens. Maybe eventually be able to have our own Teen Center. I am working real hard on making the City of Fraser a Community of Promise and join in our efforts in the Alliance for Youth. It is a Nationally Recognized Program known as Americas Promise. It is geared to create brighter futures for the youths of America. In joining with this organization we will be able to provide our teens and preteens with many more programs to ensure there futures. From Health, Marketable Skills, Social Skills and Life Skills. HOW HALLOWEEN BEGAN
Long ago, people believed that evil spirits stole the sun at the end of summer. These spirits hid the sun during winter, making the days shorter and the nights longer. People dreaded this dark and dreary time of year. The worst night of all was October 31.
The Celts, in Britain and France, held a festival called Samhain (SOW-WHIN) on October 31. During Samhain devils, witches, and goblins roamed the countryside stealing animals, creating havoc, and playing tricks. The Celts burned bonfires to frighten away these evil spirits. People also wore costumes of animal skins and heads to hide themselves.
In later years SamHain was conbined with the Roman festival Faralia, which honored and welcomed the spirits. Then Christians began to celebrate All Saints Day on November 1. They did this in hopes to make people stop celebrating SamHain. The evening before November 1 was called Hallow or Holy Evening. Over the years, it changed to Hallows Evening, and then Hallo E'en, and now is known as Halloween.
Christians still do not believe in celebrating Halloween and feel that people that do are Devil Worshipers. They try to blame people that celebrate Halloween for encouraging all the vandalism and misdoings on October 30th. However, when in fact they made it a Holy Evening and Devils Night the night before Halloween was never considered a part of the Holiday.
This is a big part of why our Halloteen Club was formed to teach kids that there are alot of constructive ways of celebrating Halloween and by providing them with activities so that they do not wish or have the need to be out on Devils night causing problems and getting themselves into trouble.
