Red Hat Terms Birthday Suits - (no, not that kind!) Wear the RHS colors in reverse your entire birthday month and gain the extra special birthday attention your deserve. (That's right, the whole month of their birthdays' our members dress in a purple hat with red clothing or a lavender hat with pink clothing. Coronation - A ceremony to honor a chapter Queen. It can be simple, elaborate, crazy, silly or all of the above as long as it's fun. Official Instrument - The Kazoo. Why? Anyone can hum and play one; it's portable; it's cheap; and group concerts are easily arranged. Official Sport Red Hat Society Day - April 25th - A fun filled holiday celebrating the anniversary of the very first Red Hat Society gathering. Each chapter comes up with its own unique way to celebrate. Many of us choose to celebrate all month long REDuation - A pink hatter's "rite of passage" which may include a creative ceremony or just a simple swapping of a pink hat for a red one. (We definitely encourage elaborate ceremonies whenever possible.) Royal Titles - In the spirit ofplay, every Hatter is encouraged to dream up a title for herself. We have ladies, baronesses, mistresses, princesses, duchesses, countesses, and on it goes. If you collect buttons maybe "Baroness of Buttons" is for you; or if you like to snap pictures, "Digital Dame" or Red Snapper" could be fun! A playful title can be the fist step toward giving yourself permission to play. Dis-organization - The term we proudly use to describe the RSH and our lack of rules or by-laws. Gutsy Gals - Courageous members who attend RHS events all by themselves and are welcomed by all. Meetings - Hatters don't have them (a bit too boring for our tastes). We prefer gatherings, hoots, get-togethers, affairs, and galas. Red Spread - A "tongue-in-cheek" term for the fast-growing popularity and presence of the Red Hat Society all over the world. Regalia - The crazy, classy, fun and colorful outfits we all love to wear when we gather. Red and purple for those over 50 and pink and lavender for those who have not yet reached "the birthday." Scarlet Sparkle - A serendipitous happening in the life of a Hatter, which has some sor of reference to her membership in the Red Hat Society. |
