While at Okpik we had a crew of 9 Venturers along with 2 Base enterpreters. We enjoyed cold weather winter camping, hiking, sleeping on the ice, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding, and the 2nd Annual Okpik Open golf Tournament! The temperatures were warmer than they were last year and there were no Zero Hero Awards to give out, we were not without excitement. During the early morning hours the temps and the weight of the snow combined to create an earth moving crash followed by most of our campers getting drenched when the lake water filled our camp site. After a quick morning packup and a hasty retreat, we were all treated to some warm, dry clothes, and a hot meal back at the lodge. Next year we are bringing our snorkle gear!
