Incorporated Epilepsy Services
(formerly known as SEARCH) is a guided independent living experience
designed to prepare adults diagnosed with epilepsy to live and work on
their own.
If you
are a person with epilepsy hoping to live on your own, this program is
for you. People Incorporated Epilepsy Services Transitions and
Waivered Services will assist you to make the transition from
homelessness, living with family, or living in a group setting to living
in your own apartment. You can live on-site in the Cedar Avenue Program
or receive outreach services and live in the community.
From the beginning, you will live in your own apartment and receive
information suited to your special needs. Staff are available when you
need help 24 hours a day.
When you have gained the skills and self-assurance to go-it-alone, you
will join the growing ranks of People Inc Epilepsy Services graduates
who are living and working on their own.

"SEARCH
helped me become more independent. I learned to organize myself,
do things for myself, and become more adaptable to new
things." |
You will
work with your counselor to design an individual training plan. Together
you set realistic goals and review and update your plan each quarter.
Individual plans are tailored to your needs and respect the skills and
experience you already have. Your plan may focus on:
In the same apartment
complex where you live, you will receive instruction on budgeting, meal
preparation, housekeeping, managing medications, securing health care
service, and getting around town on the bus. Most importantly, you will
learn how to solve problems on your own.
Making new friends and
joining them in social activities that are fun helps build
self-confidence. You will also work, go to school, or choose a volunteer
project that will give you the opportunity to contribute to the
community.

"SEARCH
made our son's transition from a dependent person to a proud
independent young man a pleasant experience. Any parents placing
their son or daughter with SEARCH can be sure of good care and
training."
