Oct. 10 - vs. MV Mustangs

Welcome to Minnesota football! It was cold and wet but the Huskies prevailed through the elements for a win. The boys played at their caliber of play and executed well. The amazing defense remains tough and kept it a shut out while the offense moved the ball moved around with different backs. Having our FB (Tyler) out sick, Lucas Roessler-Caram stepped in with only one practice under his belt and did a fine job. Offense line blocked and also did a fine job. Great job boys! One more game until playoffs!

Oct. 5th - vs. MV Eagles

That was a hard loss tonight. The only score resulted from a fumble on our 10 yard line with the MV Eagles driving it in on the opening drive. We drove to their 5 yard twice during the course of the game and couldn’t put it in. We threw the ball from a shot gun formation and almost made some down field shots. We win as a team and lose a team even in poor playing conditions!

We will be going back to the chalk board to draw up more plays, and we will work heavily on blocking (blocking is key to winning). Good defensive game tonight! The kids at the end had great attitudes, and I could tell they just love playing the game. I love it!

Thank you for your support and patience. We are 3-3 and .500 and have an opportunity to finish strong this season.

Oct, 3 - vs. MV Raiders

Today’s game was the most emotional game that I have ever been part of and everyone played with intensity. We lost by 1 TD and made a good comeback. The team today was a fast and a tough disciplined team – they blocked extremely well. They are the team to beat, and I hope to run into them again in the playoffs reintroducing them who the St. Anthony Huskies are.

Sept. 28 - vs. Irondale Gold

All the huskies played a great game and we won 27 to 7. The game started out very fast paced, with 3 to 4 fumbles by both squads. The Irondale fumbles were from dropped balls and hard tackles, while most of the Huskie fumbles resulted from hard helmet to ball collisions. Because of the Hot huskies Defense and Offense, we capitalized on the Irondale fumbles with touchdowns. Both the Defense and Offense played hard.

Good tackles, good blocking, good pursuit, no penalties, huge efforts.

Seems that our huskies, during the games, are able to play at a high level of intensity. Most important, the boys are having fun playing as a team. At this point the boys expect to win every game and will work hard to make it happen. They have taken ownership of how the game will result.

We coaches are just teaching and providing guidance to help the squad accomplish what they want. That is to play the game with the highest sportsmanship and win. We should all be very proud of our Huskies squad.

Also I want to say we coaches are always making every attempt to create a balanced defensive and offensive attack that involves every player on the squad. Specific plays and formations are being designed to incorporate every player. Our goal is that every player contributes equally.

Thanks Folks

-- Coach Smith

Sept. 26 - vs. Irondale White

Wow! What a great game today against the tough Irondale White team! That was fun to watch – thanks again for your cheering. Both Offense and Defense did well, and everyone had a great big smile after the game. I was proud of the boys with their sportsmanship – nice job boys! Final score St. Anthony 46 vs. Irondale White 20.

Sept. 21 - St. Anthony 27 vs. Irondale Maroon 0

We played a team in Irondale who has small numbers, meaning the kids played both ways and were tired - they played hard. Hats off to them!

Our Huskies remembered the basics (blocking, tackling and execution) and we did Great! Two stories of the game - our Defense was strong again stopping the Maroon on our 3 yard line and pushing them back 10 yards so our Offense could take over. They contained the corners, pursued the ball runner as a team, gang tackled, and played a lot of the game keeping a shut out! Our Offense was on the field very little but put up 27 points - it all starts at the Offensive line and the QB getting the ball to the RBs. We were able to run up the middle then the sides with tenacity and explosion!

Nice Job to all! If we keep up this level of play, we can go far!

Again, Great Job TEAM!

Sept. 12, 2009 - vs. Mounds View Vikings

We played the MV Vikings very hard today and with passion. It was very HOT! Our Defense was on fire and played very well. We lost by one TD but again we lost with giving it our best the first game and that is GREAT! The coaches are very proud of them. They were happy to see the team walk off the field smiling and with their heads up.
