The following are the current Troop 15 meeting rules. As of September,2005
Obey the Scout Law.
No name calling, no hazing, no making fun of other Scouts.
No un-Scout like behavior (IE harassment, slander, name calling)
STAY OFF THE FIRE TRUCKS!
If there is a fire call, all Scouts must stay in the meeting room, and out of the way of the fire fighters.
No Food or Drink allowed in the Meeting Room!
Each Scout shall bring his book and shirt to every meeting.
Stay off the exercise equipment.
Do not run or play in the fire hall.
Do not ride bikes or goof around in the fire hall.
Do not go through the fire department files, tools, fire gear, etc.
Stay out of the office, radio room and tool room.
Do not go in the storage room unless asked to by a leader.
Do not write on the white board unless it is Scout Related.
The troop will sweep the fire hall at least once per month.
The troop will clean the meeting room at least once per month.
If you use the phone, keep it short.
If you see a mess, clean it up.
If you make a mess, clean it up.
Any bikes brought to meetings, must be parked as far away from the fire trucks as possible, and out of the way of walkways and door ways. Preferably, bikes should be parked outside the fire hall, not inside.
No friends of scouts are allowed to attend any Boy Scout Troop Meetings. Scouts friends may attend troop fundraiser, as paid guests, but may not help out the troop in anyway. Friends are NOT allowed to be in the Scout Booth, or in the kitchen.
DE-Merits will be given if and when necessary.
Meeting Information
Troop #15 meets every Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Newport Fire Hall #1, located at 155 20th Street in Newport.
At the meetings, the boys work on advancements, plan future meetings, plan troop events, and plan camp outs. For information on the rules of the meetings, please click on the link on the left. For scout meetings, we prefer the boys wear there Class A shirt, and we want all the boys to bring there Scout Handbook to every meeting.
The parent's committee meeting is the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. and is usually over by the time the boy's meeting is over. We'd like all parents to attend the parents meetings when able to.
At the parents meetings, we let the parents know about all the important information going on in the troop, such as up coming camp-outs and events. The parent's meeting is also at the Newport Fire Hall #1 in the kitchen.
The Tomahawk Parent's meeting is important,ALL PARENTS MUST ATTEND if your son is planning on going to Tomahawk. At this meeting you will get important information about the trip, such as price, contact info, parents guide put together by the Scoutmaster. As well as all questions yu may have will be answered.
Troop 15 Merit/De-Merit System
The following is the current Troop 15 Merit / De-Merit system, as of November 2005.
MERITS
Merits will be given out as follows. Not all actions that could result in a merit are listed. These are just examples of how a scout, or the troop in whole may receive a merit. Other Merits will be given on a as seen basis. One (1) merit will be awarded per action. For every two (2) merits received, one (1) de-merit will be erased.
SCOUT MERITS:
Obeying the Scout Oath and Law.
On his own, performs a service project at camp or around the community.
Consistently bringing scout book to meetings.
Consistently wears scout shirt to meetings.
Without being asked, helps out another scout or the troop.
Helping out at scout events and functions.
Helping out with troop events.
Help pack and plan for camp-outs and other troop events.
Doing extra duties when not assigned to them.
Showing Scout Spirit.
Being an outstanding scout.
TROOP MERITS:
The troop as a whole brings their scout book to meetings.
The troop as a whole wears their scout shirt to meetings.
The troop obeys the Scout Oath and Law.
The troop completes a service project.
The troop helps other scouts and troops without being asked.
Without being asked, the troop cleans the fire hall and grounds.
DE-MERITS
De-Merits will be given out for actions listed below. For every 2 (two) merits earned, 1 (one) de-merit will be erased. Below are just some examples of actions that warrant de-merits. 1 (one) de-merit will be given for every action deserving a de-merit. More de-merits may be given depending on the action resulting in the initial de-merit.
SCOUT DE-MERITS:
Scout disobeys the Scout Oath and/or Scout Law.
Scout disobeys or argues with troop leadership.
Scout fights with, or makes fun of, other scouts.
Scout disobeys troop rules and/or camp rules.
Scout consistently does not bring scout book to meetings.
Scout consistently does not wear uniform to meetings or events.
Scout is caught littering.
Scout calls other scouts racial slurs, or prejudice slurs (3 de-merits will be given)
TROOP DE-MERITS:
Troop, as a whole, disobeys the Scout Oath and/or Scout Law.
No scout in the troop brings his scout book.
No scout in the troop wears his scout uniform.
Troop disobeys troop rules and/or camp rules.
Troop fights with, or makes fun of, other troops or scouts.
Troop is caught littering.
Troop disobeys or argues with troop leadership.
