EMERGENCY TELEPHONE SERVICE
Telephone service is available to the Tomahawk Administration Center only. Please DO NOT place calls to Scouts or leaders except in emergency situations. The camp telephone is (715) 354-3841. All calls should be person-to-person. Allow at least one to three hours for a return call as all campsites are 2-3 miles from the Administration Center and the person you are calling may be out of the central camp area on a hike or other activity.
Medical Care & Visitor Information:
MEDICAL CARE
A group of health officers serve as regular members of the camp staff. A volunteer physician and/or physicians from Rice Lake, Wisconsin, assist in providing camp medical services. In case of serious accidents, illness or hospitalization, parents are contacted. Medical care given at the camp is without charge to the parents. Treatment given outside the camp is at the parents’ expense or is filed with their health insurance provider.
VISITORS - At the troop leadership’s discretion, parents and families may visit their Scout at camp. Please coordinate the day and time with the troop leadership so that the visit does not disrupt camp program. Sunday or Friday afternoon typically work well. Meal service is not available for visitors. Please note that camp standards prohibit pets in camp— do not bring your pets (cats or dogs) with you.
If you are planning on visiting your son, please let us know before we leave. We are looking for adults to spend a couple days with us at camp. Unless we have at least two (2) adults at camp the entire week, we can not go. If you are able to spend some time with us, please let us know by July 13th. We also need drivers to and from camp, if you are able to drive either way, please, let us know by July 13th.
CAMPING WITH WILDLIFE
Tomahawk is home to many different animals native to the Midwest region. White-tailed deer,
beaver, raccoon, porcupine, and black bear are commonly seen throughout the summer along
with a host of others. They all make for an intimate part of the outdoor and camping experience
and will no doubt be fond memories of your week at Tomahawk should you see them. However,
they are all wild animals and for their protection and all those who attend Tomahawk this summer
we strongly require the adherence to our wildlife policies.
The boys have been explained the consequences for violating the TSR Bear Policy. One consequence not in the Bear Manual, but one that was added by the Scoutmaster is if a Scout jokes about, tricks another scout, lies about or yells that he see’s a bear when there is no bear around, his parents will be called and asked to pick him up that day. If your son should happen to yell “BEAR” when there is no bear around, we will call home and have you come and pick up your son. NO QUESTIONS, NO ARGUMENTS, NO REFUND!
General Troop Rules & Other…
In the next month or two, we will be reviewing the camp rules, the troop rules while at camp, the bear policy and consequences. We reserve the right to call home, to have a over the phone Parent Conference, with your son, or to call and ask you to pick up your son. While at camp, we follow the 3 Strike Rule. 3 Strikes, Scout goes home.
On the next page, you will find the basic equipment list. The following items are not to be brought to camp, and will be confiscated if found, and returned to the Scout or Parent upon return to Newport.
-Lighters+ -Fireworks -weapons* -Alcohol* -drugs* -Radios (boom-box)
-Paintball guns+ -video games (gameboy, psp) -TV (portable tv/dvd player)
+ = If found, these items will be returned to parent upon return to Newport.
* = If found, parents will be called and asked to pick up there son.
No Questions, No Arguments, No Refund.
For spending money, we recommend around $30-$40. This I to pay for lunch on the way up, cost of supplies for merit badges, souvenirs, and treats at the trading post. If your son is planning on bringing snacks or treats, please keep it to a bare minimum. To many snacks takes up to much room, and increases the chance for litter. If your son plans on bringing a cooler, we prefer he shares a big cooler chest with his tent mate, or that he brings a small one for his personal use. Please keep can soda to 12 cans. There is no limit to the amount of water or Gatorade to bring, please be considerate. Please no kool aid.
Each scout will be responsible for to bring there own mess kit. (plate, bowl, cup, knife, fork, spoon). We recommend bringing paper plates. After use, we are able to burn the paper plates.
Tomahawk 2005 shirts are available. They are personalized with troop number and city. They are $15.00 per shirt. If your son is interested in purchasing one, please let us know by June 1st. The troop will not be buying them. The troop will order the shirts if there is enough interest in buying them.
The Troop Court of Honor will be held Friday July 29th, at Tomahawk!
