A CLOSER LOOK AT CALENDAR EVENTS

  • Tuesday, November 10: We will have our annual Veteran’s Day ceremony featuring VFW Post 3838 starting at 10:45 am. If you have a hat from your branch of service or an article of clothing to wear, do so as we will be recognizing each branch of service.

  • Wednesday, November 11: The Center will be closed for Veteran’s Day.

  • Thursday, November 12: Delta New Hope In-Home Services will be at our Center to do a blood pressure screening. Come and take advantage of this free clinic.

  • Friday, November 13: Life Care Center will bring their Wii play station to our Center and will be offering Wii Therapy. Wii is a game where you play a game while you look at a TV screen, like golf, tennis or bowling. You might have seen commercials on TV where some places are offering this. There will be a brief demonstration at 10:00 and everyone will get a chance to play. Please come and support the sponsor and have some fun!

    Happy Thanksgiving

  • Thursday and Friday, November 26 and 27: The Center will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Our newest risk calculator is designed to do just that. The American Heart Association’s High Blood Pressure Risk Calculator not only allows input of each individual user’s personal measures, but shows a very visual representation of that patient’s personalized risk for chronic disease, including heart disease and stroke, based on his or her individual factors. The tool then goes on (in part 2) to show how the patient can modify and reduce these risks by making lifestyle changes.

VOLUNTEER HELP NEEDED IN THE KITCHEN - The Kitchen uses at least 3 volunteers everyday we are open to help cup up salads and desserts that go out on the meal routes and help serve during lunchtime. John Coleman has volunteered in the kitchen twice a week for many years and has decided to retire for awhile, and we have no one to help out on Tuesdays. Please search your heart and your calendar and see if you can find time to help OR if you know of someone that might volunteer in your church kitchen that help us out as well. We will call them, we just need names to call. Please help us look for kitchen volunteers as soon as possible.

THANKSGIVING IS THE TIME FOR GIVING THANKS - During this very special Thanksgiving season, we pause to thank our very special volunteers. Each and every volunteer gives of themselves over and over again with a smile and cheerful attitude and for that we are so thankful. Our volunteers are the best and we truly could not keep the Center operating without YOU! Thank You!

The Center is always in need of your Time, Talents and Resources. Please remember the Center when making your final arrangements.

HAVE YOU JOINED THE BUCK-A-MONTH CLUB? IT'S NEVER TOO LATE!

Louise Wallace is eager to put your name on the buck-a-month board. What is it, you ask? The buck-a-month club is a way to support the Senior Center with building expenses. Although there is no longer a mortgage on the building, there are still plenty of expenses. Roof leaks, heating and air conditioner repairs, and the list goes on and on. Just like at your own home, a building this size requires constant repairs.

For only $1 each month or $12 per year, you can have your name posted on the Wall of Fame on the North wall of the dining room. Your name will appear with bright shiny stars after it for each month you have paid. Please see Louis Wallace today to join. I think the best part about this club is there are no meetings to attend and no offices to hold.

Don't sit in the dumps..Move It! Move It!

HAVE YOU GOT THE "Fall Doldrums?"

Grandkids back in school and a lot of time on your hands right now? This mightt have you feeling bored, alone and friendless - could be a case of the "Fall Doldrums". A quick fix when this happens, is to come to the Senior Center.

Get up, get dressed and come to the Center. Visit with other folks, attend the many activities each day, work puzzles and talk and visit with the regulars, go table to table and make new friends, have lunch, volunteer - why the list is endless! But the worst thing to do is stay home. When you have that feeling, we've got the cure for the "Fall Doldrums" at the Center!!!!

Be sure to look under the "Scott City - Calendar of Events" link to the left of this page to see what is happening at the Scott City Nutrition Center! They are always planning a fun-filled time there too. Friday the 13th they will be hosting a Chili Supper fundraiser. Come out and support their cause.

  • JUST A REMINDER THAT WE ARE NOT A BANK - The suggested contribution for our meal is $3 and we depend on your contribution to help us meet our financial obligations. However, we are not a bank and do not have the ability to keep large amounts of change on hand. PLEASE do not bring in large bills of $20 or $50 and expect us to able to change those bills. It was our policy for years not to change any bill larger than a $10, and over time we have gotten away from that for one reason or another, so please help us by getting back on that track by not bringing in large bills. We have encouraged our clients time and time again to purchase the meal tickets in the office and you would not have to worry about having change. You can purchase a few or many and keep them on hand to use at your convenience. ALSO, they make great gifts¡K tell your children you would like to have meal tickets for your birthday or Christmas gifts and we would be happy to help them with that.

A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS

PAINTING GROUP LOOKING FOR NEW PAINTERS

The Monday and Tuesday Painting Time group would love to have you join them for their Painting Time. They meet every Monday and Tuesday from 12:30 to 3:30 and everyone does their own thing. They are a very talented group AND would love to have you with them. Take a look at what they are doing while they are painting in the dining room.

    Ummmm! Good Coffee!

Every morning, at 10 am, we put out coffee along with danish and some other treat to tempt your taste buds. Why not come on out to the Center and spend some quiet time with friends and a good cup of coffee tomorrow?

There is usually a card game or two going on or you can quietly put together jig saw puzzles with others. The computers are always available for your use and we have a number of current magazines for quiet reading while sitting in our comfy sofa's. Bessie's Boutique is a fun second hand store to browse through. Check out our Calendar of Events to see what is scheduled on a day to day basis. There's surely something that you can participate in or contribute to with your talents.

    JUST A NOTE!!

MEMORIALS TO CENTER HONORS THE DECEASED

Recently, we have received several memorials to the Senior Center to memorialize those who have passed away. We want to thank any of you who remembered the Senior Center in your estate planning by remembering us with a gift.

When memorial gifts are given to the Center, it provides income which ensures the Center will be here for years to come. When the total gift received in the name of one person reaches $50, their name will be placed on the Memorial Plaque in the hallway. Our memorial donation envelopes are located on top of the antique replica radio beside the office door. For further information, contact administrative personnel at the Center. We can further direct you in having a bequest made to the Senior Center.

      WE NEED YOUR HELP!!

HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE SENIOR CENTER ON A DAILY BASIS???

Each and every day, all of us have the opportunity to support the Center in so many different ways. The list is nearly unlimited, but let me try to name a few:

  • Save all aluminum; cans, foil, old lawn chair frames, guttering, etc. Saving aluminum cans generates income for the building mortgage.

  • Join the Buck-A-Month Club. For only $1 a month, or $12 per year, and get your name on the prestigious wall of fame board. Only $1 per month!

  • Participate in weekly raffles on Thursday. By purchasing tickets you are supporting the building fund and the financial obligations it has. Who knows, you might win something really neat!

  • Each Wednesday we have Donuts for Dollars, which is a bag of donuts for $1, and this too goes toward the building fund.

  • Pennies (or loose change) in the jar at the front desk helps the building fund. You would be surprised how quickly change adds up! Lighten your load, empty your pockets of those loose coins, and help the Center’s building fund.

  • Make a contribution to Marian Charities. We are the very fortunate recipients of an almost matching fund program through Marian Charities. We have to collect $250 each month of newly generated money through your donations and then we send that money in, and in about 1 week, we receive back a $400 check from Marian Charities. What a deal! I think we wish we could do that with our own money! All of the Board Members contribute each month, but more are needed to reach the magic number of $250. Donations vary from a few dollars, $5 or $10 to much more, as some choose to give a one-time annual gift. This is so easy to do, but makes a huge difference in the Center’s building fund budget. See Bill Ford or Susan in the office to contribute TODAY.

  • Purchase a soda from the soda machine. The soda machine in the dining room sells sodas for a small price, compared to other vending machines around town, and the income from the machine goes to the building fund. A cool refreshing way to help the building fund.

As you can see, there are plenty of things we all can do to help our Center.

    GIFT CERTIFICATES MAKE GREAT GIFTS

When your children or grandchildren ask what they can buy you for birthdays, Mother's Day, Valentine's Day or "Just Because", why not request a gift certificate for your meals here at the Senior Center?

We have them available for any amount, and no time expiration. They may be purchased in the office during regular business hours. These are good for home-delivered meals as well as in-house congregate meals.
