Columbia MOPS
If you’re the mother of a preschooler,
 you've got your hands full.
If you’re newly pregnant or awaiting an adoption, you’re in for BIG changes.
We know how you feel.
Come and discover how Columbia MOPS can strengthen and encourage you as a mom.

What is MOPS?
MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) is for mothers with children under school age (0-6).  MOPS strives to provide a Christ-centered, caring ministry that fosters the development of friendships, creativity, leadership and spiritual growth.   Columbia MOPS is part of MOPS International (www.mops.org) an organization meeting the needs of more than 100,000 women in over 20 countries.

MOPS recognizes that urban, suburban and rural moms, stay-at-home and working moms, single and married moms all share a similar desire to be the best moms they can be.

You don’t have to do mothering alone. Whether you need a friend to compare stories with, a shoulder to lean on, or ideas to help you be a better mom – MOPS is just the place. MOPS is a support group for moms with children from expecting through Kindergarten, focusing on the unique needs of moms in this phase of life. Experience warmth and shared wisdom from other moms, not all the same age, lifestyles or backgrounds, but all with a shared desire to be the best mothers they can be.

While each group is different, the MOPS program is built on several foundational principles:

Community: MOPS provides an open, caring, and accepting atmosphere where women can come together to share this important season of life.
Mentoring: Mature women listen, encourage, and offer information and perspectives gained through experience.
Practical Instruction: Teaching focuses on areas of common interest, offering inspiration and information that is relevant to the life of a mother.
Leadership Development: MOPS groups are organized and run by mothers of preschoolers, as well as for mothers of preschoolers.

MOPS THEME 2007-2008

In our homes of origin many of us learned the deepest lessons about relationships, developed life routines, and acquired our tastes and preferences. Now, as moms, we long to create homes where our families can thrive and grow — and we can too.

Our homes must be safe places – both physically and emotionally safe. In them we bond, we eat, we play, and rest together. We decorate and provision our special home spaces. The theme the HOME factor: BEGIN HERE … GO THERE enriches our perspective and hones our abilities to create a cocoon of home.

But at its healthiest, our home experience should fill us and launch us into wider circles of investment and influence where we interact with our world. We return HOME to reconnect and refuel — but we’ll move from the HOME outwards to make a difference.

The heart of the HOME is also a picture of God’s desire to interact with us and deeply love us where we really live. He desires to make his home in our hearts. He expresses it this way in the theme verse: "...he lives with you and will be in you." John 14:17

Three key elements of this theme we plan to explore throughout the year:

Our homes are where we bond, cocoon, and build inwardly.
Our homes are where we refuel so that we can live fully in the world beyond.
Our homes are a picture of Jesus' dwelling within us.
