Golden Valley Bluegrass Association In the summer of 1980, 15 people came together to form The Golden Valley Bluegrass Association. With no money, but backed by the Clinton Park & Recreation Department, it was decided to have a bluegrass festival the second week of October, 1980. This was held at the Henry County Fairgrounds, and even though the weekend was cold, several brave bluegrass fans turned up that weekend to make our first festival a huge success. The next six years our festival was held at the Artesian Park in Clinton. In 1981, we started having a second festival during May. In addition, we were having one bluegrass show on Saturday each year, at the old high school auditorium. In 1986, Lester and Mayme Foster, also members of the Golden Valley Bluegrass Association, said they would build the park, if the club would help with running it. The club voted unanimously to this offer. The members also helped with the construction of the park. The first week of October in 1987, the 8th Annual Bluegrass Jamboree was held in the new Lester Foster Music Park. This year, October 1-2-3-4 2008, will mark our 29th Annual Fall Bluegrass Jamboree. |
