2012 MO CHAPTER I COUPLE OF THE YEAR
First we would like to thank Chapter I for the honor of being Missouri Chapter I Couple of the Year. We will represent Chapter I and GWRRA to the best of our abilities. We do enjoy traveling to other Chapter’s meetings and rallies and we will do so on behalf of Chapter I. This is an honor that we do not take lightly. We hope that by visiting with other chapters and their rallies that they in turn visit our Chapter’s meetings and Fun Run.
Now just a brief history of our GWRRA beginning:
In June of 2010 Carol and I attended our first Chapter I meeting at the Old Delmonico’s in Jackson. We were looking for more couples to ride motorcycles with and that was all. As we both entered the meeting that night I leaned over and told Carol “now we are not volunteering for anything I just want to ride” and she concurred. We had both been very active in our local union and other organizations that we had been associated with and were just looking forward to sitting in the back of the room unnoticed, like a wall flower. But those that now know us realize that could not happen for long. By our second meeting we were hooked and had sent in our membership for GWRRA. We were well on our way to a brand new chapter of our life. We had met and fell in love with our brand new ‘GWRRA’ family. And the rest of the story is making history every day.
Have you ever heard the saying “You’ve come a long way baby”? In my lifetime I have been a daughter, sister, grand-daughter, wife, mother, electrician, grandmother, widow, biker, crash survivor and an official member of Chapter I. On December 3, 2011 at our monthly Chapter I meeting I was extremely surprised and honored to learn that I would be adding another title to my list - that of Chapter I 2012 Individual of the Year!!! Who would have thought, certainly not me but, I am truly honored to be named as Chapter I’s first ever “Individual of the Year”! One of the first things I was told when I joined Chapter I was to “expect the unexpected”.......... Now I know what they mean!
In 2006 we joined GWRRA and we have chosen to participate at many different levels throughout the organization.
Since joining GWRRA, we have held the following positions at the Chapter level; Rider Educator, Newsletter Editor, Chapter Director, and Chapter Couple of the Year for 2010. Past District positions we have held are Assistant Rider Educator and Rally Vendor Coordinator. We are now District Directors for the state of Missouri, and we are still the District Couple of the Year. On the Region level we currently hold the positions of Newsletter Editor, Webmaster and Region E Couple of the Year. We are also both Certified Seminar Presenters for Leadership Training Program (LTP) and Rider
Education Program (REP). Bruce is also a Senior Presenter. We both are Medic First Aid (MFA) Instructors and Trainers.
A special recognition Bruce recently received was being selected as one of
the 50 “Best of the Best” Chapter Directors who will serve on a National Task Force. The purpose of this Task Force is to educate new Chapter Directors.
We are anxious to see where the journey takes us next…...
It’s the Journey, Not the Destination...
