Mo-Ark Alumni History Throughout the years, many alumni of Circle K International have expressed a desire to continue their service to the Kiwanis Family after graduating from college and beginning their post-graduate and professional careers, to give back to the organization which meant so much to them during their collegiate careers, and to keep in touch with their former colleagues. The alumni of the Missouri-Arkansas District have been no exception. In 1997, after years of discussion about organizing reunions and forming an alumni organization, a small group of past district officers started to develop such efforts. Inquiries were made as to the proper formation of a chartered organization that would be recognized by the District and by International. Research began to locate former members of the various clubs in the Missouri-Arkansas District. Administrative actions began to develop, including the rough drafting of a set of bylaws. Finally in 1999, beginning at the 44th Annual District Convention, efforts were stepped-up to increase the alumni base and to move forward with the chartering process, and a temporary board of directors was established. Throughout the Spring and Summer of 1999, members were recruited, research was completed, and ideas continued to develop. In the Fall of 1999, the temporary board met to discuss the purpose and mission of the newly-forming organization, finalize the bylaws to be approved, discuss projects and ideas for the future, and discuss the collection of contributions to help the organization get started. In late 1999, after a requisite number of alumni had signed on to be charter members, the first Board of Directors was elected and appointed. In early 2000, the Circle K and Kiwanis District Boards approved the proposed bylaws and gave their consent to the formation of the new Alumni Association. At the 45th Annual District Convention, the Association held its first Annual Meeting, and participated in several other activities at the convention. Upon approval by the International Board of Trustees in May 2000, the Missouri-Arkansas Circle K Alumni Association was officially chartered as the fourteenth official alumni association of Circle K International. Continued success of this new organization will depend on the alumni, their continued involvement, and contributions. With everyone’s cooperation, the Alumni Association is certain to grow into an auxiliary for the District; provide means for additional fellowship, service, and networking; and serve as a conduit for recruiting Kiwanis members. |
