Alumni Associations began meeting unofficially, known as “Hasbeens.”
Late 1970’s-Early 1980’s:
Several districts try to establish formal structures.
1983:
Capital District Alumni Association is formed.
1983-84:
Carolinas and New Jersey districts begin to organize Alumni Associations.
October 1984:
Special Committee on International Alumni (SCIA) is appointed to coordinate and research activities.
1984-85:
Organizational efforts begin in Indiana and New York districts.
June 1985:
SCIA issues report concerning guidelines for District Alumni Association structure.
1985-86:
Organizational efforts begin in Minnesota-Dakotas and Wisconsin Upper Michigan districts.
March 1986:
International Board committee surveys governors and administrators to discover the current attitudes about Alumni Associations.
March-April 1986:
International Board committee surveys general membership to discover the current attitudes about Alumni Associations.
April 1986:
SCIA issues a report concerning the general philosophy, role and structure of Alumni Associations.
1987:
Circle K international House of Delegates in St. Louis adopts resolution encouraging the approval of Alumni Associations.
January 1988:
Circle K International Board accepts formal position paper seeking approval of Alumni Associations and establishes necessary guidelines, including the Standard Form for District Alumni Associations Bylaws
May 1988:
Kiwanis International Board of Trustees approves the formation of District Alumni Associations and the Standard Form for District Alumni Associations Bylaws.
August 1989:
First District Alumni Associations recognized by Circle K International Board: Ohio and Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee.
1997-98:
Alumni from the Missouri-Arkansas District begin to research and plan for a future Alumni Association.
1999:
Alumni are recruited from the Missouri-Arkansas District to serve as charter members, officers/directors are elected/appointed, and bylaws are proposed.
January-February 2000:
The Missouri-Arkansas Circle K and Kiwanis District Boards approve the formation of an Alumni Association and approve the proposed bylaws.
March 4, 2000:
The Missouri-Arkansas Circle K Alumni Association holds its first Annual Meeting.
May 2000:
The Circle K International Board formally recognizes the Missouri-Arkansas Circle K Alumni Association as the fourteenth official alumni association.
