History

MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) is a Christian-based international support group for mothers of children from birth - kindergarten. We include mothers of all ages and those who have chosen to stay home to raise their children as well as those who work out of their homes or part-time.

Chapter History

This MOPS group was founded at New Summit Presbyterian Church in 2001. In September 2007, we began meeting at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1800 SW 150 Highway, Lee's Summit, MO.

Our club has a lot to offer our members. Each month, we have two meetings with a designated speaker, discussion time, a craft and food. During the summer months, we have weekly field trips, park days, playgroups, and MOMS Night Out (no kids or husbands!). We also offer these types of activities periodically during the MOPS regular meeting months (September-May).

We also conduct at least one service project each year that benefits children and their families in the Lee's Summit area, such as donating supplies to local charities.

Dues are $23.95 per year to MOPS International, but if a hardship arises, scholarships are available. No mother is turned away because of an inability to pay dues. We try to do fun things at little or no cost-- we know how families tend to be on budgets! We also have semester dues which are $100 pre-paid for the year, or $55 per semester (fall and spring).

We generally have about 35 women in attendance at each meeting. Our regular meetings are based on the school year cycle. We meet the first and third Thursday of each month (September through May) from 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. During the summer months, we have an organized activity calendar that you and your children can take part in.

The goals of our chapter are simple: * We will make every mother feel welcome and supported by our chapter. * We will serve as a source of information and encouragement to all members. * We will perform an annual service project benefiting needy children in our area. Here are some of the things that make us special: * We meet during the day, when at-home mothers most need support! * We believe being a mother shouldn't isolate you, so mothers may bring their children with them! For meetings, children are divided into age appropriate rooms with at least two childcare workers per room (the children have their own club called MOPPETTS!) Mothers of babies less than one year of age can keep them with them during the meeting.
