Who We Are ...

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.

The heart of Kiwanis is the individual club which becomes personally involved in making its community a better place in which to live. The heart of the club is the people who make the organization what it is. Our club is what it is because of the character and ethics of the individuals who have contributed greatly of their time and talents through the years. Kiwanis Club of Ozark Empire, the second club to be formed in Springfield, Missouri, was founded on November 21, 1949 and received it's charter from Kiwanis International on January 4, 1950.

Visitors are invited to attend club meetings which are held:

Noon every Wednesday
Clarion Hotel
3333 S. Glenstone
Springfield, Missouri
Board of Directors meet at 11:30 a.m. on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

  4. Replace yourself if you have to leave the club.

    Facts about Kiwanis:

The Motto: "Serving The Children of the World!"
    The Purpose:
Service to Youth, to Community and Nation.
    The Name:
The name Kiwanis stems from an Indian phrase which, roughly translated, means "to express one's self."
    The Objects:
    • To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life.
    • To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.
    • To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.
    • To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, agressive, and serviceable citizenship.
    • To provide, through Kiwanis Clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.
    • To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and good will.

Note: The above objectives were adopted at the Kiwanis International convention in Denver, Colorado in 1924 and the wording has never changed.
