Solid Color of Choice,
6 oz/170 g balls, 1 ball
Crochet hook, size 6.50 mm, U.S. K or 10.5, or size needed to obtain tension.

Basket shown in solid color Lily Sugar'n Cream Crafter's Cotton (6 oz/170 g): 1 ball. In ombres, (4.75 oz/135 g): 1 ball
SIZE: Approx 8 ins [20.5 cm] diameter
GAUGE: 9 dc and 4 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].
BASKET: Ch 4.
1st rnd: 7 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join with ss to top of ch 3. 8 dc.
2nd rnd: Ch 3. 1 dc in same sp as last ss. (Ch 1. 2 dc in next dc) 7 times. Ch 1.
Join with ss to top of ch 3. 24 sts.
3rd rnd: Ch 3. *2 dc in next dc. 1 dc in next ch 1 sp. 2 dc in next dc. 1 dc in next dc. 2 dc in next ch 1 sp.** 1 dc in next dc. Rep from * twice more, then from * to ** once. Join with ss to top of ch 3. 36 sts.
4th rnd: Ch 3. *2 dc in next dc. 1 dc in each of next 2 dc. Rep from * around to last 2 dc. 2 dc in next dc. 1 dc in last dc. Join with ss to top of ch 3. 48 sts.
5th rnd: Ch 3. 1 dc in back loop of each dc around. Join with ss to top of ch 3.
6th rnd: Ch 2. *1 dc in sp between next 2 dc. Rep from * around. Join with ss to top of ch 2.
Rep last rnd 3 times more. Fasten off.
Handle: Ch 22.
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Ch 1. Turn. 21 sts.
2nd row: 1 sc in each sc across. Ch 1. Turn.
3rd row: Working in back loop only, work 1 sc in each sc across. Ch 1. Turn.
4th row: Working through both loops, work 1 sc in each sc across. Ch 1. Turn.
Fold handle in half along ridge formed with 3rd row. Join as follows: Work 1 row ss along top of 4th row, at same time working through rem corresponding loops of foundation ch. Fasten off. Sew handle ends in position as illustrated.
