Who are the RED HATS and what is it with those red berets?? ![]() Constructing the Red House Setting the sill on top of the foundation for placement of the vertical logs The Red Hats are an elite group of volunteers who each put in over 200 hours of their own time to make the Red House Interpretive Center a reality. Without the hard work of these men, women and children the Red House would have remained but a vision in the minds of Jane Randol Jackson, Linda Nash and Dr. Frank Nickell, the founding members of the Cape Girardeau District Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Committee.
![]() A few of the Red Hats gather at the Annual Reception Honoring Volunteers The bronze plaque seen in the above picture honors all of the volunteers that made the construction of the Red House Interpretive Center possible and also lists all of the names of the Red Hats. The plaque hangs on a wall in the Girardot Room. |
