Family Support Network, Gail Mohrmann July 16, 2008 13 members and 1 guest present: Stephanie Camden (today’s speaker from Family Support Network). Next week, July 23, will be our Board/Business Meeting. After announcements and communications, President Ed introduced today’s speaker. Stephanie Camden, Director of Development and Marketing for Family Support Network, gave a brief update of the FSN’s activities. They are a prevention agency to try to prevent abuse and neglect from occurring. They try to treat the problems before they develop to the point of becoming full-blown abuse and neglect. Abuse and neglect can take many forms, not just the physical as we so often think. Abuse and neglect take the form of children not going to school, not seeing a doctor regularly and getting their shots, verbal slings at a child, etc. Since we all have a stake in our society, so it falls upon each one of us to hotline a family if we see, or suspect, any of these forms developing. FSN’s goals are to strengthen family relation-ships and to keep kids in school to become more productive citizens. They provide individual family therapy, parenting education, support systems, and follow-up to see how families are doing. There is no charge for their services. 38% of the families they serve are struggling in poverty. Families are referred to them by schools, doctors, social agencies, churches, etc. Happy $$$: Bob for the warm weather; Sue for Patrick being here; Ed, Patrick and Louann for today’s program; Vern is going to Omaha for a family gathering; Carla for her grandkids being in town last week; Rick for last weekend’s HOG "Observation Run;" Gerry for her birthday party this week; Jeanne is going to Springfield, IL to see the Lincoln Shrine; Mel for his family visiting. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
