YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Being a SouthernCare Hearts of Hospice Volunteer can be one of the most rewarding experiences that you will ever have. There are few things in life where you give so little and receive so much in return. Being a hospice volunteer is uplifting and inspiring. Contact Jerry to find out how you can become a part of our compassionate team.

WHAT CAN I DO?
  • Make friendly visits to patients and their families.
      • Yardwork for patients who are no longer able.
          • Listen and be there for patients who need companionship.
              • Run errands for caregivers, grocery shopping.
                  • Office support.
                      • Deliver special treats to patients for holidays, birthdays, etc.

    YOU ARE IMPORTANT

As a Hearts of Hospice Volunteer, you are an important part of the Interdisciplinary Team of professionals that serve our families. Volunteers don't replace the need for Nurses, Social Workers, Home Health Aides or Chaplains, but they do provide a very valuable service to our patients and their families.
      BECOMING A VOLUNTEER IS EASY

There is a common characteristic among hospice volunteers. They have the desire to help others. They give freely of their time and talents because they want to, not because it is required or expected of them.

Being a volunteer does not require any special talent, though all of our volunteers are special in their own way. A short orientation is required but is scheduled to accommodate your availability. We understand that your time is very valuable and make every effort to work around what time you have available.

    YOUR TIME IS VALUABLE

Volunteering as little as a couple of hours a month can provide the assistance a patietn and/or family needs at a time when they need it the most.

Volunteers schedule their own hours according to what is convenient for them. Once a volunteer has been assigned to a patient/family, they coordinate their own schedules. If the volunteer is unable to fulfill a request, the SouthernCare Volunteer Coordinator arranges for another volunteer to fill in. We recognize that volunteers have other responsibilities and are grateful for any amount of time a volunteer can give.

HOSPICE IS A SPECIAL KIND OF CARING
At SouthernCare, our goal is to ensure quality of life to patients who are dealing with limited life expectancy. However, we do not have a pre-conceived, standard program that applies to everyone. After all, people are different. So we listen, we learn, and that is what makes us different.
Each patient that comes to SouthernCare receives specialized, unique care. And that includes much more than just exceptional medical attention. At the heart of SouthernCare is our staff and our volunteers. From this diverse group of healthcare professionals, we create what we call the Interdisciplinary Team for each patient.
Our Hearts of Hospice Volunteers are an important part of these Teams. The volunteers unselfishly devote their time to brighten the days of our patients and families. This may mean relieving the caregiver at times, offering errand running services, or just raking a yard full of leaves. Volunteers provide joy and support to families at this time in their lives.
Above all, we understand how important it is that this time be handled with great compassion and dignity. In doing so, we believe flexible, innovative care and education are the key. And that's exactly what you will find at SouthernCare.

PLEASE CONSIDER BECOMING A VALUABLE PART OF THIS WONDERFUL PROGRAM.
