Don't allow fear of the unknown stop you! We welcome all visitors, whether you're just curious about joining or serious. There's no obligation to speak unless you desire to participate. Some visitors attend our meeting and quietly observe, and that's perfectly fine; others dive right in and participate in our Table Topics session (speaking "off-the-cuff" for 1-2 minutes about a general topic). Either way, you can't go wrong; you'll be taking the first step toward your goal of overcoming fear and becoming a better speaker. Think of all the benefits you'll reap both personally and professionally! In case you still need convincing, check out the Testimonials from our members!

Being in Toastmasters has increased my comfort level in public speaking. This enables me to focus my attention on the content of the message. I would recommend the experience! The members at Webster Groves Toastmasters are an interesting group of supportive people. I am a better speaker because I came to Toastmasters. In the three years I have belonged to Toastmasters, I have observed people join and significantly improve their public speaking. It is what keeps me coming back.

I joined Toastmasters because once, when I asked my Public Speaking teacher if I could make a career in the public speaking world, her reply was, "Keep your day job." I remembered another member of that class talking about Toastmasters. So I called a number in the South County Journal and reached the Webster Grove Club, and the rest is history. Toastmasters helped me a lot, especially in going back to school to attain a Bachelor Degree in Business Communications (Magna Cum Laude) and MBA. Today, I am an instructor at ITT Technical Institute, and on occasion do some outside speaking for a consultant company out of Chicago.

Fear prevented me from joining Toastmasters for over two years. The very thought of public speaking would send me into a panic. Although I had no idea where this fear stemmed from, I knew I had to do something about it or else it would control me for the rest of my life. One night, I mustered up enough courage to peek my head in at a Webster Groves Toastmasters Club meeting. To my surprise, I was met by a group of friendly and understanding folks who welcomed me and made me feel at home. I even spoke that night, nerves and all. And you know what -- I didn't do half bad! That *one* night of success kept me coming back for more. My biggest mistake was not joining sooner!
