With only one chance for making a “first impression”, make it count! Approach the lectern with enthusiasm and confidence. Stretch out your hand to shake the Toastmaster-of-the-meeting. Face the audience with a smile...and a pause. Then charge in, knowing that what you have to say is worth hearing, because you are prepared and ready!

Knowing some successful tips will aid us in appearing professional and confident. These tips from Dennis R. Tesdell* include:

  • Appear neat and dress appropriately;
  • Smile;
  • Shake hands when meeting and parting;
  • Maintain good eye contact;
  • Relax and be yourself;
  • Don’t brag or name-drop;
  • Part with a smile, handshake and sincere, friendly comment or compliment.
*Taken from “The Top 10 Ways to Make a Good First Impression” by Dennis R. Tesdell, professional personal development and business coach.
