THEODORE ROOSEVELT CALLED IT "THE JEWEL OF THE DELTA"
For years, many citizen from the Mississippi Delta have contributed to a multi- billion dollar empire in inventions, music and other, yet the state of Mississippi is one of the poorest states in the country. The movement seeks to reverse these statistics by empowering and mentoring the movers and shakers of the great Mississippi Delta and utilizing the city of Mound Bayou and it's history of self government and African American success.
Key people and organizations have come together to support a city-wide redevelopment program comprised of humanitarian projects. With recommendations that the city become a premier tourist area and oasis, the Mound Bayou Movement uses a promise in Isaiah 61 as an inspiration and guide. The founders of Mound Bayou believed that the Village they founded would prove and display to the world of the great gifts and talents that the black man would contribute to this great United States and world. With prayer and the faith of God, the Mound Bayou Movement "is on."
