![]() The Missoula Really, Really Red Tough Old Broads (Red Hat Society Chapter ID 6151) was formed in October 2002 when Queen Mum Peggy Stellmach held an organizational get-together at the Carousel in Missoula’s Caras Park, sharing the Red Hat Society's mission of greeting middle age with verve, humor, and elan. Queen Peggy has reluctantly relinquished her crown as she has moved to another state. Queen Pat-in-a-Hat (Pat Proebstel) was "installated" on April 17, 2006. Our chapter has grown to 40 vibrant, wonderful and often silly ladies, including a one pink hatter! We have no set meeting date but, true to red hatter style and spontaniety, we gather whenever the Spirit moves us! Chapter members choose a month and plan an event for that month. In addition, whenever a chapter member hears of something fun or interesting to do, she invites her chapter sisters and off we go!! When our event can accomodate more ladies, we invite other Missoula and surrounding chapters to join us. The more, the merrier!! Underneath the frivolity, we share a bond of affection, forged by common life experiences and a genuine enthusiasm for wherever life takes us next. To be a redhatter, one must wear a red hat and a purple ensemble at all gatherings to keep up the spirit and purpose of the (dis)organization, except during your birthday month, when you colors are often switched to a purple hat and red ensemble. Ladies under fifty wear lavender with a pink hat until that big 50th birthday reduation. We want to encourage the kind of sisterhood promoted by the RHS and find that it thrives best in comparatively small groups. Therefore, our chapter is currently closed to new members. However, we do have a waiting list for those willing to wait for a spot to open. If you are interested in joining the Red Hat Society and cannot find another open chapter nearby, please contact Hatquarters for assistance. Email info@redhatsociety.com or call their toll-free number: (866) 386-2850.
Our Chapter Membership Policy (It's only a policy! There are no rules!) Members who miss three consecutive chapter gatherings without contacting Queen Pat-in-a-Hat will lose their place on the roster. (This does not apply to area events.) This policy will be administered gently and with discretion, so that if members stay in touch and confirm a continuing interest, they will remain members in good standing. Our chapter is currently closed to new members. If you would like to be on a waiting list, please e-mail us at the address below.

Our thanks go to Sue Ellen Cooper, Exalted Queen Mother of the Red Hat Society, and her friends for wearing those first red hats to tea in April 1998, resulting in the birth of the Red Hat Society.
