We are located in Durham, North Carolina
Beta Iota Chapter participates in the Durham/Person Coordinating Council which includes Eta, Beta Iota, Beta Kappa, and Delta Gamma Chapters.



The objectives of Beta Iota Chapter include promoting the following Society Purposes:

  • TO UNITE women educators of the world in a genuine spiritual fellowship
  • TO HONOR women who have given or who evidence a potential for distinctive service in any field of education
  • TO ADVANCE the professional interest and position of women in education
  • TO INITIATE, ENDORSE AND SUPPORT desirable legislation or other suitable endeavors in the interests of education and of women educators
  • TO ENDOW scholarships to aid outstanding women educators in pursuing graduate study and to grant fellowships to women educators from other countries
  • TO STIMULATE the personal and professional growth of members and to encourage their participation in appropriate programs of action
  • TO INFORM the members of current economic, social, political, and educational issues so that they may participate effectively in a world society

In addition, the chapters' local mission is to address the following:
  • To provide a way to honor key women educators in Durham and Person counties;
  • To provide an opportunity for interaction among key women educators;
  • To offer meaningful programming for advancing the purposes of the chapter and the society; and
  • To offer an annual grant-in-aid to a woman student pursuing education for a career in education.

  All 2009-2010 events for Beta Iota Chapter have been completed. Be on the lookout for updates on programs for the upcoming year. Enjoy your summer!
 
Membership

We have 34 Members!
  • 5 Honorary Members
  • 1 Reserve Member
  • 28 Active Members

  1. We inducted 2 new members in May 2010!
    • Membership is composed of active, reserve and honorary members.
    • Active, reserve, and honorary membership status is defined in the Constitution of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
    • Invitations to membership in Beta Iota Chapter are issued based on the Constitution of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and in cooperation with the Durham/Person Coordinating Council.
    • Key women educators in Durham and Person counties are nominated for membership in Beta Iota chapter by active members using the nomination form available from Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
    • Nomination forms are submitted to the Beta Iota Membership Chairman by mail during the month of February each year.

  President's Report

On May 4, 2010, the coordinating council convened at Umstead Pines at Willowhaven to initiate new members. Beta Iota Chapter inducted Shana Adams and Christine Danko! Please join us in welcoming them to our chapter!

The Initiation Banquet was our last meeting as Co-Presidents, and we will hand over the reigns to our incoming officers:

There is no treasurer's report at this time.
  Scholarship
The Beta Iota Chapter has awarded recruitment grants to high school seniors who plans to pursue a college degree in education.

Currently we have no scholarships available.
