WHO WE ARE
Elizabeth City Habitat for Humanity, formed in 1990, is a non-profit, Christian-based organization. We are an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International dedicated to building decent, affordable homes in partnership with low-income families in Pasquotank County.
Habitat welcomes everyone who is willing to pick up a hammer, paintbrush or broom and work in whatever way is needed to help improve the lives of families needing decent shelter. A family who is selected for a home needs to meet certain criteria and partner with Habitat.
Elizabeth City Habitat for Humanity builds houses in partnership with people in need for housing, ability to repay a non-profit mortgage and willingness to partner with Elizabeth City Habitat giving many hours toward the construction of their home. Mortgage payments contribute to a fund for Habitat for Humanity which in turn provides the money to build additional houses. Because of Habitat's no profit loans and because the houses are principally built with volunteer labor, mortgage payments are affordable for low-income partners.
Board members and others serve on committees that include Family Nurture, Family Selection, Fund- raising, Grant Writing and Solicitation, Publicity, Site Selection, and Volunteer Coordination.
Funds to build Habitat houses come from individuals, churches, civic organizations, corporations and foundations. Individual contributions are tax deductible, and regardless of the amount - they are always appreciated!
Volunteers
Volunteers are special!! You may have special skills or not but volunteering will bring many rewards. You may even learn a new skill in the process.
Volunteers come from all walks of life. We can use your talents to build another dream.
