ECPD NATIONAL NIGHT OUT IN ELIZABETH CITY -On August 5th National Night Out, a national program focusing on anti-crime was a big success with over 5,000 in attendance. Our K-9s performed grandly for Elizabeth City residentsand tourists. They appreciated what our dogs can do jumping through hurdles, climbing barriers, apprehension, detecting narcotics, etc. We hope everyone took along good information as well. Also joining the demonstrations were the Pasquotank County Search and Rescue Team whose dogs are invaluable in tracking missing persons, etc. Special guests that night were from the 4th Security Forces Squadron MWD Section, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, North Carolina. TSST Ryan Feltzand MWD Ralph, SSGT.John Whiswman, and SRAirman William Baily and MWD Robby traveled quite far to be with us. The special unit uses their dogs in the detection of narcotics and explosives, searches (suspects, terrorists, etc.) and attack if necessary. Demonstrations included controlled aggression, explosive detection (sodium chlorate training aid) and basic obedience. They also demonstrated the effectiveness of hand signaling in their training which is imperative in military operations. The squadron's mission is the global war on terror: the k-9s are vital to our national security having served along and are currently serving alongside our servicemen in Iraq and Afghanistan. Great job military war dogs (MWDs), the Elizabeth City Police Department K-9 Unit and Pasquotank County's Search and Rescue Team. Give them a big paw for the job they do to keep our community and nation safe! ![]() ![]() ![]() Police K-9 at work. ---------------------------------------------------------Buck gets his man!--------------------------------------- ![]() 4th Security Forces Squadron MWD Division and ECPD K-9 Unit--Get 'em.---------------------Ralph and Ryan Felz---------- ![]() |
