What if your child walked no more than one or two blocks to their school and the class size was no larger than 12 students? And what if they had the same teacher(s) for their whole educational career? What if your child's schoolmates also lived in the neighborhood and everyone walked home together? What if the schedule was attuned to the age group of the child? And what if the day was flexible enough for some children to rest when needed or run around outside when needed (which is needed for about 6 hours daily for 7 year olds per the American Heart Association). And what if your child learned science, math and reading by doing art? What if your child had a voice in their own education? Child-centered education or progressive education is the foundation of true learning. Children do not learn by listening to 'lessons'. Instead, they learn by doing; that is, creating, dissecting, examining, digging, exploring, touching, searching, finding and traveling.
A Child's work is never done! They are always learning!
