Mission Statement

Project Linus is a volunteer non-profit organization with a two-fold mission.

FIRST, it is our mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers."

SECOND, it is our mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.

Anyone, any age, can help these children. It is within your power to make a difference!

About Project Linus
Project Linus began in December 1995 after Karen Loucks was inspired to make blankets for her local children's cancer center. Since then, Project Linus has expanded to include children who are traumatized in many ways.

Over 350 chapters of Project Linus exist nationally with more than 3,000,000 blankets donated to children.

Project Linus of Rockingham County was started in March 1999 and has donated more than 4500 blankets to children in crisis.

The Rockingham County Chapter of Project Linus is the recipient of the North Carolina Governor's Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service and WFMY-TV2 "2 Those Who Care" award.

  How You Can Help
Make a NEW, HANDMADE, washable blanket. We will give the blanket to a deserving child to keep. If you are not able to make a blanket, monetary donations are gratefully accepted.

Project Linus accepts blankets of all styles, including quilts, tied comforters, fleece blankets, and crocheted and knitted afghans in child-friendly colors. Blankets must be made with new materials and be washable.
