Running – The neglected skill

Click – drag – drop, Click – drag – drop. What a pain! It’s well worth it. Slow runners, and bad base running skills will cost you games. You can have the best defense in the world, but if you can’t beat the throw to 1st base, you can’t win. Everyone says that pitching is the key to getting started. That is probably true. Once you have found your pitcher you have a good shot at winning games with defense. It takes a while to build up offense. So what do you do? You can skip playing games until you have reached into the higher star levels with all your skills in place. You can play and lose. You can even play lesser teams and win (That’s not much fun). I found that you could be competitive early on with only 2 skills. Pitching, of course, and running. Even the newest teams will get some hits, unless you are up against a great pitcher. Somehow that short trip to 1st base seems like a lifetime until you have built up some speed. How many outs have you seen when you hit a shot into the gap behind the SS or the right fielder dropped the ball, but somehow, that tiny little ball seems to go like a bullet to the 1st baseman? Yer Out!

While you find your pitcher, you will be gaining some passing skills. So will your opponent. Take a few extra minutes and build some base running skills. It will pay off!

1 disclaimer – with DT all bets are off! Running is easy in DT !!

Good Luck
