The Southern Appalachian Cloggers, Inc. The Southern Appalachian Cloggers is a non-profit organization formed in 1967 with the goal of performing and preserving the history and heritage of original mountain clogging. The team has performed throughout the United States and Europe and are now the retired Grand Champions of the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival, one of the premier clogging competitions in the country held annually in Asheville, NC. The team performs regularly at the Historic Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC, The High Hampton Inn in Cashiers, NC and at street dances and fairs throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. The team's most passionate engagements are for charities. In 2005, The Shriner's Hospital for Children has permanently inscribed the Southern Appalachian Cloggers in the Gold Book for all of the contributions made by the team. The Southern Appalachian Cloggers have also been recognized for contributions to the National Cancer Society.

The Team Members
The team consists of 18 team members from all professions. Each performer has their own style of dance and no two performers dance alike. Some wear taps while others prefer not to. Some members have been on the team for over 30 years while others have recently joined. Our ages are young to old but dancing makes us all the same age. The Southern Appalachian Cloggers have been awarded numerous trophies, awards and certificates of recognition but the best reward is the smiles on the faces of the audience, from the children at the Shriner's Hospital to the elderly confined to nursing homes. We love to see people enjoy our performances as much as we love performing this authentic mountain dance passed on through generations.
 About Clogging
The North Carolina General Assembly adopted "Clogging" as North Carolina's Official Folk Dance on June 30, 2005. The word "CLOG" comes from Gaelic and means "Time", done in time with the music. Appalachian Clogging is a blend of dances brought by early settlers. The Irish and Scottish brought their jigs, the English came with their clogging. Some clogging steps include a stomp thought to have come from The Cherokee Indians. Our decendents melded these moves and have been doing their own to the tune to a fiddle and banjo, or to the hum of their own voice. Clogging can be done in shoes with taps or without, some call it flatfooting, step dancing, hoe-downing, or back-stepping, The Southern Appalachian Cloggers just call it fun.

Engagements
The Southern Appalachian Cloggers are available for group gatherings, benefits, private parties, street dances, and fairs.
