Past Troop Activities Camping at Helms Farm April 23 and 24, 2009 (photos) Court of Honor: Feb 9, 2009 Howard Coble and the Friends of Scouting were our special guests at this Court of Honor. Falls Lake Hike on January 10, 2009 Camp Cherokee: June 29-July 5, 2008 Our troop spent a week at Camp Cherokee in Yanceyville, NC for summer camp. Summer camp gives new scouts an opportunity to work on rank advancement and earn merit badges while camping and developing relationships with other scouts who share their interests. Participating scouts were Kevin, Matthew, Logan, Stephen, Wesley, Christian, Cole, Adam, Anson, Tyler, Garrett, Joshua, Chris, Ben, Jared, and Paul. Adult leaders present were Cliff, Anson Sr, Farrel, Steve, and Karen. Virginia Creeper Trail: April 26-27, 2008 Our troop rode bicycles on the Virginia Creeper Trail. The Creeper is one the troops favorite annual activities. Participating scouts were Bryan, Drew, Kevin, Stephen, Cole, Adam, Matthew, Logan, Christian, Wesley, Alex, and Anson. Adult leaders present were Steve, Eric, Linda, Jeff, and Karen. USS North Carolina: March 15-16, 2008 Our troop toured the USS North Carolina and the North Carolina Aquarium @ Fort Fisher. We camped overnight at the Carolina Beach State Park. The weather provided an opportunity to practice our emergency prepardness planning because of severe thunderstorm warnings and tornado watches that had been posted by the National Weather Service. Participating scouts were Bryan, Matthew, Kevin, Alex, Drew, Logan, and Christian. Adult leaders present were Steve, Travis, Tracy and Karen. Eagle Service Project: Mar 1st, 2008 Our Scouts helped Ben move rocks in preparation for construction of the sign for the "Fun for All" playground. Those participating were Ben, Logan, Matt, Christian, Alex, Bryan, Kevin, and Cole. Adult leaders were Mr. Whitley, Steve, and Tracy. Scouts on Skis: Feb 28, 2008 This year our ski trip to Winterplace was a day long. Scouts left TUMC in the church van @ 5am and returned near midnight. Logan, Christian, Drew, and Matthew went on the trip. Steve, Jeff, and Tim provided our adult leadership. Cherokee District Merit Badge College: Feb 2nd and 16th, 2008 Five of our Scouts ranking from Life to Tenderfoot attended this merit badge college. Scouts were given the opportunity to earn 3 merit badges over 2 weekends. Participating troop scouts were Drew, Kevin, Logan, Stephen, and Cole. Adult leaders present were Steve and Tracy. Our Troop Planning Committee also used this day as a "Planning Retreat." The committee worked from 8:30 until 1:30 planning upcoming events. Adults present were Tracy, Jeff, Farrel, Steve, Karen, Tim. Scout Sunday @ Tabernacle: Feb 10, 2008 TUMC honors Scouts who meet at their church annually with Scout Sunday. Troop 426 participated in the service by leading the flag ceremony, children's story time, acolytes, and ushering. Participating troop scouts were Alex, Drew, Logan, Matthew, Kevin, Stephen, Wesley, and Christian. Adult leaders present were Steve, Tim, Karen, Travis, Farrel, and Sharon. Camp Gilrock Service Project: Jan 25-27, 2008 Camp Gilrock was an exciting campout for Troop 426. We were able to help Chris J with his Eagle Project and the Webelos II from Pack 426 spent Saturday night camping with us. We look forward to the time these Cub Scouts will be part of our troop. With clear weather and lows near 26 degrees it was winter camping at its best. Scouts attending were Ben, Drew, Matt, Logan, Cole, Alex, Christian, Bryan, Kevin, and Chris J. Adult leaders were Steve, Karen, Jeff, Farrel, Tim and Tracy. Christmas Party at Lazer X: Dec 15, 2007 We enjoyed playing Lazer X and eating pizza. Laser Tag is a high tech form of hide-and-go-seek and tag. Players wear a light-weight vest and carry a futuristic phaser to "Tag" opponents with a visible laser light beam and score points. Seabase 2007 If anyone has a description of this past event or actual dates please let me know and I can add a description. Lion's Club Service Project: Dec 1, 2007 The Lion's Club service project was a great success. Some cooked, others filled treat bags, everyone was blessed. Participating scouts were Drew, Logan, Christian, Cole, Alex, Tim J., Bryan, and Kevin. Adult leaders included Steve, Karen, Jeff, Tracy, and Travis. Ben and Chris participated as part of the SEHS Jazz Band. After serving the blind some of our scouts went to see the movie Beowulf for their popcorn sales reward. |
