News
Stay tuned for more information about NYRA-Asheville. If possible, I will be having my first meeting in July if at all possible.

School is out! Thank goodness. I cannot believe that summer is over half gone. It is absolutely horrible how this summer has been flying by so fast.

I was recently in the Asheville Citizen-Times paper. My pic is on this link.

My mom had an article about her wrote in a national medical magazine.

I don't necessarily believe that all teachers should have a gun on them, but you know recently a teacher had a gun in his car, and he was able to stop this kid from killing people. Maybe if at least one teacher on each hall had a gun in their car? Most SRO's are sheriff officers anyways, thus is a good idea to have SRO's on campus.

---

All teachers do go through extensive background checks too. So if a teacher was to get a gun in his or her car, the background check would need to include a pshycological exam with a lie detector exam. Also giving a principal a gun wouldn't be that bad of an idea either. However, all teachers and staff should have a minimal amount of self-defense training.

This is absolutely ridiculous. The majority, and I do mean majority, of students, teachers, and parents are very much against the new calendar for next year. We live in a county where it snows a lot during the winter. Taking out five days from the school year is awful. Students need a break during the school year more so than during the summer!! Those five days are essential for positive attitude about learning. They will tire out without a break. For our county, we only "gain" one week of summer, big deal. What does it matter? Nothing. I had much rather get out of school May 22 than late in June. Starting August 8 or thereabouts is perfect!! That is the way it has always been for a long time, and it should not have been changed. If we have a lot of snow again this year, our county will have to take away our Easter break or go way past June. I hate this stupid calendar. Why did you have to mess up everybody's summer? It is all the same as it has been, just rearranged. We lose 5 teacher work days, which is terrible. Also, it makes absolutely no sense. You think nothing about us!! It has always been the east versus the west part of North Carolina, as evidenced through this calendar. I am ashamed of my capital.

This is a letter I sent to the SAVE OUR SUMMERS
Do not "save" our summers!

How to know if you're staying at a Fleabag Hotel:
  • If the name is not a major name such as: Days Inn, Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, etc.
  • If there are not many cars in the parking lot or garage.
  • If their sign says "We have color TV and Phones"
  • If there are only two or three floors.
  • And the upkeep on the outside... Any pools, etc.?

    ---

How to know if you have an OK teacher:
  • How nice is he/she?
  • Does he/she listen/answer questions?
  • Does he/she actually teach and not make you teach yourself?
  • How much homework? How much weekend homework?
  • Does he/she explain beforehand how to do the homework?
  • Does he/she give enough time to do projects?
  • Does he/she actually go over the homework afterwards? for a quiz or test?
  • Does he/she give open- or closed-book tests?
  • Does he/she give extra credit or chances to make up grades?
  • Does he/she respect her students?
  • Does he/she give enough time to study?
