Welcome to the Omaha R/C Boat Club Website!           We are the Omaha R/C Boat Club located in Omaha Nebraska, a recently formed club looking for others in the Nebraska/Iowa area who are interested in rc boating. Standing Bear Lake in Omaha is our home port where we meet every other Sunday for sailing, fun and just plain boat talking! We welcome all types of r/c boats, from small inexpensive runabouts to expensive scale and sail ships. If you are a experienced or novice sailor looking for a boat club in eastern Nebraska or western Iowa, contact us we will be happy to talk to you.

R/C Boating  Looking to try something different in the R/C field? Tried the planes, cars, trucks and tanks. Well give boating a try! We are promoting the awareness of rc boating by introducing people to sailing, scale boating, submarines and building. You dont have be a r/cer to enjoy boating, static builders are more then welcomed. The knowledge of building and building techniques that the static builder has will be a great asset to the novice builders as well as the seasoned sailors.

We enjoy boating almost as much as we enjoy the friendship. We do not tolerate mean-spirted actions or foul language on the lake and safety rules are always followed. The club is just starting out and we hope to become the best boat club in the midwest area. If you like to bring a boat out and join us or wish to try your hand at sailing please drop us a line or stop out and see us at Standing Bear Lake!

Sailing

The Omaha R/C Boat Club is affiliated with the American Model Yachting Association (AMYA). We promote radio controlled model sailing with the goal of educating members on sailboat building, rigging, handling, racing rules and sailing tactics.

Our club is informally structured and we have no dues but if a person wishes to race then the member must become a AMYA member. The AMYA membership is $25 per year, which includes a subscription to Model Yachting quarterly magazine. Our models work just like the full size saiboats and use the same racing rules. As a matter of fact the AMYA is affiliated with the United States Sailing Association. To learn more about the AMYA click on the AMYA link in the link section.

If you are not a racing type and just want to sail with others, please join us. Many of the members just enjoy the fresh air and sailing about one of Omaha's beautiful lakes. Just bring a lawn chair and relax!

  Scale Boating
Scale boating is for those who enjoy building a part of history. The models are smaller versions of a real ship, either military or civilian. A builder can choose from scale tugboats, pleasure crafts from the early 1900s or something as modern as the QE2. If you like the tall sailing ships of old, there are numerous kits available that will challenge even the most skilled builder. The scale at which the builder wishes to make it are only limited to his time and patience. Military ships are very popular with the scale modelers. The World War Ships offer a modeler the chance to re-create a ship that help change a world. Some builders prefer to have their models remain static displays, other like to add motors, sierns, lights and armament. Some submarine models even have working torpedos and missiles.

Most models are built from wood then covered with fiberglass but plastic models are becoming popular both as static display and r/c. Click on the Warships Models Underway link in the left column and view the gallery photos to see some fantastic works of craftsman ship. Some of these models took years to build. If you are interested in how they are built just browse though the how-to-section.

Scale boating can be a challenging hobby but yet rewarding once you see your ship steam across the pond on its maiden voyage. More information can also be found on at the Scale Ship Modeler's Assocation of North American website located in the links section. If any of this sounds interesting and you have any questions please contact us and we will be happy to answer them!

Float/Sail Pictures
We had some wind out there today. The winds were coming out of the east causing some waves that we had to plow through. Made tacking into the wind hard for some. Maurice had some problems with the wind and ended up beach on the north side of the lake. No damage done to the boat. Dicks America3 performed great as always. I had my Mary J Ward, renamed the Darlene S, out today for her second float. Did good, took on some water. I am still finding little holes to fix. All in all a good day. Enjoy the pictures.

Events

I will also be attending the St Louis Admirals regatta on Sept 20-21 in St Louis Mo. Check out their website at www.stlouisadmirals.com. You can look at the pictures of the past regattas. This is the one of the largest events in the region with over 100 boats entered in the regatta. Happy Boating!!!
