Quilting Guilds
The Midwest has so many quilting guilds, there's bound to be one near you. This Web Site lists many of the guilds and local chapters in Nebraska. The Omaha Quilters Guild is one of the largest quilters guilds in the state, with over 350 members.

Crochet Guild of America
Dedicated to teaching and learning crochet, this organization has chapters in our region. To locate one near you, or to find crochet-related events, visit their Web Site to find out more!

The Knitting Guild Association
Dedicated to knitting, this organization has chapters in Sioux City and Des Moines, but none in Omaha at this time. They offer many online resources and a regularly published magazine. Visit their Web Site to learn more!

Surface Design Association
A non-profit organization of 3,100 artists, designers, teachers, curators, gallery owners, and others enthused about textiles. Surface design is the coloring, patterning, structuring, and transformation of fabric, fiber, and other materials. Topics include: Textile painting, printing, dyeing, quilting, weaving, stitching, embroidery, beading, knitting, computer-assisted textile design, and creative processes, among others.


Public Service Opportunities

Armed Forces Appreciation Patch Project
Visit Patterns Online to download the pattern and instructions for this quick-to-stich appreciation patch. Stitch one or several! Finished patches will be distributed to men and women of the armed forces through the Salvation Army. Details and the address to mail completed patches to are on their web site. Patches are also available for United Kingdom and Austrailian soldiers.

Precious Moments Charitable Patterns
Designs by Gloria & Pat has several charitable stitching opportunities. If you like Precious Moments designs, here's an opportunity to stitch for the benefit of others. Patterns available include:
The Angel Quilt Project
Operation Teddy Bear
Fight Breast Cancer
Links to the charitable organizations these projects benefit and the address to mail completed projects to are on the web site.

The Angel Quilt Project
This organization provides handmade quilts to preemies in Neonatal Intensive Care Units and Special Baby Care Units throughout the USA, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. In addition to stitchers, volunteer quilt finishers are needed to piece and finish the quilts. Visit The Angel Quilt Project Web Page to learn more about the organization and get involved. Several free patterns have been donated by well-known needlework designers, including Teresa Wentzler.

Project Linus
Project Linus welcomes blankets of all sizes and styles, including quilts, tied comforters, fleece blankets, crocheted or knitted afghans, and receiving blankets in child-friendly colors. Blankets must be new, handmade and washable. You don't have to be an expert to create a blanket that is beautiful to a child! Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is well known for one of it's most famous volunteers - Jimmy Carter. Habitat for Humanity uses donated time and materials to build houses for families who otherwise could not afford housing. Can't swing a hammer?
