The 16th Annual Gretna Needleworker's Retreat will be held at the Eastern Nebraska 4-H Facility in Gretna, NE, March 15-18th, 2007! The deadline for registration is February 15th; any registrations postmarked or e-mailed after that date are subject to a $5 late fee. Note: Most of our classes are limited, so be sure to register early.


Retreat at a Glance:

Thursday

  • Registration – anytime after 9 a.m.
  • Enjoy a full day of stitching and chatting
  • Make It/Take It class at 8 p.m.
    Scissors Pocket - Kit contains: instructions, fabric, thread to sew up the pocket, twisted with matching floss for tassel, scissor protector tip.
    Please feel free to bring any special embellishments to make yours special. Kit Fee is $3.00.
  • Stitching ‘til the wee hours!
Friday
  • Lodge open all day for stitching.
  • Registration open until 6 p.m.
  • Brown-bag gift exchange (optional)– bring needlework threads or stitching accessories (no kits or patterns - approx. $8-10)
  • Scavenger Hunt – acknowledge the inner child! Prizes will be awarded.
  • Stitching ‘til the wee hours!
Saturday
  • Workshops – see descriptions, or ‘do your own thing’
  • Show' n Tell
  • Massages – must pre-register
  • Merchandise Night
  • Stitching ‘til the wee hours!
Sunday
  • Mini-workshops – see descriptions, or ‘do your own thing’
  • Departure from camp by 12 noon

The Accomodations:

The Eastern Nebraska 4-H Camp is about half-way between Omaha and Lincoln, west of Schramm Park (I-80 to Gretna exit 432, then 5 miles south on Hwy 31.) You can see the Camp HERE.

Cabins have electric heat and a bathroom with shower, and sleeping for 5 to 10 people. Note: We will have 8 full cabins available, so we can use just the lower bunks. Handicap cabins are available – please note your need on your registration form. Participants must bring their bedding, towels, and personal items. Bring a basic stitching kit for workshops, Brown bag exchange gift if you wish to participate, and munchies to share. Donation - option to donate to the Eastern Nebraska 4-H Center for their scholarship fund.

Registration Fees:

  • Thursday-Sunday Weekend - $130.00 (3 nights lodging and 9 meals-Thursday lunch thru Sunday breakfast).
  • Friday-Sunday Weekend - $85.00 (2 nights lodging and 6 meals-Friday lunch thru Sunday breakfast).
  • Saturday-Sunday Weekend - $55.00 (1 night lodging and 3 meals-Saturday lunch thru Sunday breakfast).
  • Saturday – Day only - $30.00 (all day stitching, plus lunch and dinner)

Thursday Make It Take It
Scissors Pocket

Taught by St. Paul Needlweorker’s Chapter

Kit contains: instructions, fabric, thread to sew up the pocket, twisted cord with mathcing floss for tassel, scissor protector tip. Each kit is different. Each person supplies their own scissors for the pocket. Available for further embellishment are: beads, ribbon, lace, miscellaneous fibers, buttons, baubles, charms, etc. Please feel free to bring any special embellishments you may want to use from your own stash.
Kit fee is $3.00.


Saturday Half Day Class
Needlebook & Scissor Fob

Taught by Cathy Habermann

Morning Workshop: Needlebook & Scissor Fob 9 a.m. - noon Needlebook focus techniques: a "knotty" edge give a perfect finish, lining your needlebook, and a little cording goes a long way! Scissor Fob focus techniques: try a fun finishing method that makes it look like the pros. We'll also make more use for that twisted cord.
Kit fee is $15.00.

Saturday Half Day Class
Pin Box & Strawberries
Taught by Cathy Habermann.

Afternoon Workshop: Pin Box & Strawberry 1 - 4 p.m. Pin Box focus techniques: This is pobably the single best technique I can show you - how to flat-finish a stitched piece - the perfect technique for ornaments, wall-hangings, stand-ups & box tops. Strawberry: Don't these look so cute on the patterns? We'll make one already! We'll take the fear out of it for you.
Kit fee is $15.00.

Sunday Morning Class
Garden Party Bracelet
Taught by LaVerda Fry.

Beaded Bracelet taught by LaVerda Fry, who is willing to start the project prior to Sunday morning for anyone who wants to get a head start on the project
Kit cost is $15.00.

Sunday Morning Class
Brooch
Taught by Julie Ochsner

The brooch is made by embellishing a hand-dyed silk cocoon with beads and stitches using specialy fibers. Kit includes the hand-dyed silk cocoon, choice of beads from Julie's stash and specialty fibers and metallic threads. Please bring general sewing supplies. (photo not available.) No extra kits will be available, so please pre-register.
Kit cost is $5.00.
