Blanket Alert!!

The Supply is Low, Yet the Demand is High.......

Our blanket inventory is at an all time low, yet hospitals and shelters are calling in their requests. We need your help. We have bolts of fabric ready to be crafted into quilts, but we do not have any batting. And we are out of money. Could you spare $5? Or a roll or batting? If you ask each coworker for one dollar, you would be able to donate lots of batting for children's quilts. Please????

NH Seacoast Project Linus Is Undergoing Changes!

Bob's Discount Furniture (don't you just love his commercials!!) made a large cash donation to our NH Seacoast chapter in 2007, and then he MATCHED that donation in 2008!!!. It is the largest amount of money we have ever received, and we were able to make over 50 blankets for children in need with Bob's first donation. We purchased bolts of fleece and batting with Bob's second donation to begin making blankets for next winter. . A portion of the money donated by Bob's was used to help comfort the Seabrook Elementary School students when one of their classmates died in a tragic accident. Please click on the "In Memoriam" page for more info. Thank you Bob!!!

COOKIES.......COOKIES.......COOKIES.......COOKIES........COOKIES.......COOKIES

In February, I was invited to work with a Brownie Troop 2355 in Plaistow. Not only did they craft and donate lots of blankets....they had some very special cookies. These unique and quite delicious cookies were made by Ronald Watkins. Ron's whole family is involved in the Plaistow community, and he made over 60 cookies to celebrate a very successful blanket drive held by the first graders as well as the brownie troop.

Ron even volunteered to share his recipe, so here it is:

The bed is a graham cracker.

The face is a vanilla wafer.

The eyes are gel frosting.

The teddy bear is a teddy graham cracker, attached by frosting.

The blanket is fruit roll ups.

In early January, our NH Seacoast Project Linus Chapter Coordinator received an inquiry from a Hollis, New Hampshire woman. In the course of collecting clothing and blankets for newborns of families in need, this woman received a Project Linus blanket. She was impressed by the beautiful, handmade blanket, and felt that her mission of providing quality items to newborns in need was quite similar to the mission of Project Linus. After meeting with our Coordinator, it was decided that our mission was so similar, that this was a match made in heaven. Our chapter is honored to provide blankets that will add an extra layer of love to these care packages, which will be distributed to newborns in need through contacts with hospitals, social organizations and other similar programs. As you can see from this photo, the Project Linus blanket acts as "wrapping paper" for the lovely layettes, and the presention is absolutely beautiful. For more information about this endeavor, please email Maureen at nhseacoastprojectlinus@comcast.net

The packages (pictured above) were put together using blankets crafted by our own Blanketeers. They are boy/girl specific and contain clothing items in sizes 0-6 months

On December 4th, I visited the Garrison Hill Quilt Shop, 23 Floral Avenue at Oak Street, in Dover NH. What a lovely shop! It is well worth the trip. From the warm decor, to the luscious fabrics, friendly folks, and my favorite---the clearance table---I highly recommend this shop. There were many top quality fabrics on the bargain table--at 40% off. Even better--if you buy the remainder of the bolt, you receive an extra 10% off. I was in search of some bargains for a blanket making day being held by the Girl Scouts. When I explained this to the shop owners, they immediately donated batting and fabric! These wonderful people also work with other nonprofits, and are very generous folks. I urge you to stop by their shop. You will love it!
