Blanket Alert!!

The Supply is Low, Yet the Demand is High.......

Our blanket inventory is at an all time low, yet hospitals and shelters are calling in their requests. We need your help. We have bolts of fabric ready to be crafted into quilts, but we do not have any batting. And we are out of money. Could you spare $5? Or a roll or batting? If you ask each coworker for one dollar, you would be able to donate lots of batting for children's quilts. Please????

Blanketeers are a large part of our mission, and their dedication provides them with a rewarding service opportunity that benefits the children in our communities.

Terry Uzdavinis inherited her crocheting talent from her mother, and has been crafting family keepsakes for many years. Creating baby blankets/afghans with soft yarn in pastel colors are her favorite items to make. Terry has been crocheting blankets for Project Linus for the past several years. She lives with her husband, John, in Salem, NH. and they cherish the time they spend with their 2 beautiful grandsons, Cole who is 4 years old and Cade who is 2 years old. Terry is semi-retired and in between working part-time in a doctor's office, and spending valuable time with her grandsons, she still manages to continue to craft blankets/afghans for Project Linus and her family. This is one busy lady....with one big, generous heart! Thank you Terry!

Sandra Gagne has been donating her fabulous hand crafted quilts (pictured right) to Project Linus for over five years. Hundreds of her quilts are in the arms of children all over NH. Sandra lives in Berlin, and manages the blankie needs of children throughout Coos County in addition to the seacoast area. This is no small task, yet Sandra still finds time to work with children in the community and teach them about quilting. Please check out the quilt that Sandra made with the children in a summer reading program (Click on Blanket Number 3000 link on the left). Sandra also makes chemo caps and turbans for chemo patients. She is a delightful, spirited Blanketeer, and we are most fortunate to have her so deeply devoted to our Chapter. Thank you Sandra.

Our Chapter Coordinator Maureen

After 33 years in Human Resources at both Pease Air Force Base and the IRS, Maureen opted for an early retirement. While searching for volunteer work, she stumbled upon Project Linus, and signed up to be the NH Seacoast Coordinator. It is a truly rewarding experience. She visits schools, social agencies, hospitals and shelters to ensure that the needs of our NH children are met. Maureen also works with the Blanketeers who craft the quilts, afghans and fleece blankets that are donated to our Chapter. She picks up donated supplies, delivers them to Blanketeers, and often provides instructions and patterns to assist the Blanketeers with their activities. Maureen hand delivers all blankets to recipients. She packs her Blanketmobile with hundreds of blankets and travels throughout NH. Maureen's entire family is involved with the Chapter. Her 86 year old Dad helps fill the gas tank of the Blanketmobile, and her husband Neil purchases supplies, and helps with pick up and deliveries. Maureen has often said that even though she is retired, she works more hours than ever before...but each hour devoted to Project Linus brings a fullness to her heart and spirit that was not evident during her career.

Jenna, a thrity-six year old Blanketeer from Manchester has been crafting using assorted mediums since she was eighteen years old. It wasn't until happenening upon Project Linus that she realized she had inherited her Grandmother's talent with a crochet hook. Her favorite blanket to make for Project Linus is the star afghan (pictured right)as it easily lends itself to all kinds of yarns and a variety of sizes.

Project Linus is a mission near and dear to her heart as she still has the blanket her Grandmother made for her when she was born. Jenna knows first hand the comfort a blanket made with love brings and continues to bring even at her age. She hopes that the blankets she makes bring the same to the chldren who receive them.

Blanketeer Sandra sewing on labels

Sandra is one of our younger volunteers, and has been helping out for the past three years. She inspects blankets for forgotten pins, sews on labels, and then folds and packs the blankets for Grandma.

That's right....Sandra is Maureen's granddaughter....her pride and joy!!
