!!!CELEBRATE!!!

THE HOLIDAYS ARE HERE!!

Help Us Celebrate Children!!!

We met our goal of 2000 blankets in 2009!! But....I have outstanding needs that our chapter cannot meet without your help. It hurts to turn away a child in crisis. So please help....by sending in a Five Dollar Bill, or a roll of batting, some fabric or yarn.....and I will ensure your donation makes it to the hands of volunteers who will make blankets. Another suggestion: Do you have holiday parties at work, and always wonder what gift to bring for a coworker? Why not skip the gifts this year (do you really need another candle or box of candy?). Ask each coworker to donate a few dollars and then make a donation to Project Linus, which will provide blankets to children. Now that is true holiday spirit

Thank you!!!! Maureen

The Higgins family from Seabrook was struck by tragedy while driving in Newington when their car was involved in a motor vehicle accident. While both parents sustained injury, sadly, their seven year old son Jonathan did not survive the crash.

Jonathan was about to enter second grade. Because Seabrook uses the looping system, he would have had the same teacher and classmates. As part of our ongoing mission to promote and share the spirit of Project Linus, our Chapter Coordinator Maureen Brown delivered a comfort quilt for each of his classmates. She also met with the principal, guidance counselor and second grade teacher to formulate plans to make a memory quilt to be presented to Jonathan's family.

The students designed enough quilt blocks for two quilts. One for the classroom and one for Jonathan’s parents. Second-grade teacher Cathy MacDonald, Elementary School Principal Jeni Mosca and Vera Ross, a family relative organized a fund-raiser dinner to help defer some of the hospital and funeral costs. During the event which raised $1,300.00, the memory quilt was presented to the Higgins family who were overwhelmed with emotion.

Jonathan's class mates each made a memory square.

Jonathan's favorite t-shirt was used as part of the quilt that was made for his parents.

The children signed the quilt.

A smaller memory quilt for the classroom was lovingly sewn together by our chapter coordinator Maureen Brown.

A larger memory quilt with Jonathan's favorite t-shirt was made for his parents.

Here are the children with the quilts.

Project Linus' mission is pure and simple: to provide love, security and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need.

We do this by giving them new, handmade blankets lovingly created by volunteer Blanketeers. Blanketeers are a large part of our mission, and their dedication provides them with a rewarding service opportunity that benefits the children in our communities.
