BACKGROUND and CHHS STAFF NOTE!!: THIS PAGE NOT YET UPDATED FOR HOMELINK! This page provides information on: THE BACKGROUND OF THE CHHS THE CHHS ADMINISTRATION STAFF MEET THE FACULTY BACKGROUND OF THE CHHS The Christian Homeschoolers' Hybrid School was born out of the passion and desire from the Cesa and Perry families to "keep homeschoolers at home", while maintaining "excellence in home education". Both families saw a trend of homeschoolers leaving the homeschool world and enrolling in local private or public schools by default. These families' hearts were desiring to stay in homeschooling, but due to parents feeling either inadequate to do the job at the upper grade levels or being simply exhausted from prior years of homeschooling, they were enrolling their students in schools as they themselves were unable to continue to juggle home, life and High School homeschool commitments any longer. It then became the Cesa and Perry goal to create a "Hybrid School": a cross between a private school and a homeschool whereby professionally trained or extensively experienced educators would partner along with homeschool parents to provide an alternative to either homeschooling alone or abandoning homeschool altogether. In providing this opportunity to partnership, these families hoped to enable homeschoolers to continue to homeschool, yet at the same time, maintain a level of excellence in their education. CHHS ADMINISTRATION STAFF Program Director of Academic Administration Position Includes: Oversee all academic aspects of the CHHS; manage schedules; lead meetings; monitor Arrival/Dismissal and/or Study Hall during the CHHS day. She designed a curriculum, authored a text and established a small publishing company to help rectify some of the issues associated with poor speech skills and lower literacy rates among the deaf population. She and her husband, Glenn Cesa, have always homeschooled their four children, currently ranging from Kindergarten to 8th grade. Once entering the homeschool world, Karen became involved in orchestrating many programs for homeschoolers including a gymnastics program, ice-skating programs, and various and numerous ongoing field trip activities. She and her husband have both served several years on local support group councils, and continue to provide workshops and seminars on various topics within the local homeschool community. In the early years of her homeschooling, Karen provided a small-scale co-operative in her home in which she taught various subjects for four years. As her family and homeschool needs grew, she helped develop, establish and run a larger scale Classical Co-op in a church facility, here teaching primarily Latin and Critical Thinking Skills at various grade levels. He has been studying and translating Latin since 1965, when he took Latin as part of his studies for the priesthood. Leaving the Seminary and four intense years of Latin study, he then attended Georgetown University in 1969 where he continued a keen interest not only in Latin but in language study in general. Graduating with a Bachelor's in Science, he attended the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and currently holds a degree in Family Medicine, with added qualifications in Geriatric Medicine. Although Latin has been a lifelong passion, he has studied a variety of other languages over the years and continues to do so. Because of his love for language and his zeal to share his Latin enthusiasm, Dr. Bain has offered himself as a Latin teacher to the Christian Homeschoolers' Classical Co-op in 2001. Here he has taught High School level Latin to students in 5th - 12th grades, using a variety of materials, including supplemental games and materials he designed himself. Dr. Bain graciously offered to extend himself even further to homeschoolers, starting in the 2003-2004 school year, by accepting the position to teach Latin in the Hybrid school. We are thrilled and extremely fortunate to have access to his talents and expertise! And when not spending his spare time teaching Latin to homeschoolers, or translating Latin passages at home, you might find Dr. Bain scouring book stores, building computers, or heading out for the Jersey shore where he enjoys spending time with his wife and two school-aged children. After a few years in that capacity, and continuing to accumulate graduate level credits, Mr. Beaver moved toward total administration where he served as the Vice Principal for 5 years. However, the classroom beckoned to Barrie. He returned to teaching as he finished up his near 40-year academic career instructing in Vernon High School, Montclair State, Sussex Community College and Sussex Vo-Tech. Mr. Beaver is described to "love teaching" and be "excellent with his students" and he's said to be a "rock-solid, energetic, spiritual leader".
