The Cookies are here!! the Cookies are here!! Thanks to Donna once again for running a well organized Cookie Depot. She puts in a long day and works very hard to benefit our Service Unit. Also, Welcome and Thank-You to Megan who will be replacing Donna next year. She also spent the entire day at the depot working and learning her new position!! GIRL SCOUT COOKIES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE PEANUT BUTTER RECALL. Visit www.littlebrowniebakers.com or Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore Cookie Page to learn more about the cookies we sell. Interested in joining Girl Scouts?Come and join the fun, and see what Girl Scouting has to offer. It's never too late to join, and all girls ages 5 to 17 are always welcomed. Click on the link to "Council" on the lower left section of this page, where you can obtain more information on how to join. Volunteer Awards & Recognitions It’s that time again to recognize all the leaders and volunteers in our Service Unit for all the hard work and commitment they have given throughout the year! If you would like to show your appreciation of the hard work a volunteer has done on a Service Unit or Council level, whether its from leading a troop, chairing an event, being a team member, coordinating a project, please consider submitting an award nomination to the Ocean or Monmouth Office of the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore or to the Service Unit by March 1, 2009. Award descriptions and nomination applications can be found on line at the following link: Awards & Recognitions A Message from the Service Unit Manager I can’t believe we are in the second half of another great Girl Scout Year! Our Dogwood Membership is at 453 girls and still counting! Kudos to all our Leaders who open up their troops and hearts to make girl scouting available to “Every Girl, Everywhere”! Tell your friends how much you love girl scouting! Encourage them to attend a troop meeting and to “join” in on the fun!! Speaking of fun, we have had some great Service Unit Events so far, the Masquerade Ball, Snow Flake ball, and Roller Skating! I’m looking forward to our World Thinking Day Event where many troops will be participating and each will be showcasing a different country around the World! Many upcoming events are also on the horizon: Father Daughter Dance, Junior Spa Night, Mom & Me Tea, the Wild Wild West Encampment, Ice Cream Social, Daisy Teddy Bear Picnic and to end the year our Annual Leaders Awards Dinner! Wow, what an agenda! Thank you to all the volunteers who help to chair these events because without them, these events would never happen! Lastly, please take a moment to think of the people who have helped make Girl Scouts a positive experience for you. It takes many hours of service from our fantastic group of volunteers to form troops, lead troops, help troops, organize and hold events, provide training, coordinate product sales, be Service Team members, and so much more! Think about submitting a nomination for a volunteer you admire … what a great way to say “Thank You”! Happy Scouting!! Sue Wojcik

Event Calendar For a listing of upcoming events, please click just below the calendar on the left. Please remember to get RSVP's to your leader on time, so she may submit them to the event's chairperson before the deadline. Also, please keep in mind some events are for specific age levels of Girl Scouts. Awards-Troop 371 is working on their Bronze Award. On November 22nd the Troop helped "Blossom International" stuff 500 duffle bags for children entering the foster care system. Children ranging from newborn to 13 years old received bags containing toiletries, clothing, toys, arts and crafts, school supplies, etc. The Troop also held a supply drive for baby items and donated them to this wonderful organization. |
Troop Happenings Troop 596 is working with the Standardbred Retirement Foundation in Hamilton, a racehorse rescue organization, as their service project for the "Brownie Quest". The girls will be going to the farm monthly to help care for the horses, and also opted to make a monetary donation instead of their annual holiday grab bag. The monies will help purchase bedding for the stalls. Brownie Troop 64 had a great time attending the Fall Forestry Festival on October 5th. The girls earned their Earth & Sky Try-It by taking the "Blue Bird Trail" and the "Changing Forest Hike". Great job girls!!

Service Projects Troop 549 is collecting pop tabs from aluminum cans to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. The House receives much needed financial support through this program. The Troop is also collecting Pepsi & Coke caps to exchange for promotional items to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. Please bring donated tabs & caps to Troop meetings and ask your leader to pass them on to Mia of Troop 549. This is a great "no cost" way to help a worthwhile cause. Food Bank of Ocean and Monmouth County The number of families seeking assistance at local food banks is steadily increasing, as many people are facing hard economic times. Donations are needed throughout the year, not just during the Holiday Season. Some of the regularly distributed items are cereal, peanut butter, jelly, pasta, pasta sauce, mac & cheese, soap, shampoo, toothpaste. |
Service Collections at Events Please remember to take note of the "Service Collections" listed on fliers for Events. For each event our Service Unit chooses a local charitable organization in need of supplies. Donation items should be new/unused unless otherwise specified. Thank-you.
