COLD WEATHER CLOTHING SUGGESTIONS:

LAYERED CLOTHING SYSTEM

Plan to dress in layers. Wear several layers of lighter clothing instead of one heavy layer. This way, you can better regulate the amount of insulation. Layers trap warm air better than one heavy sweater. If you get warm , you can take layers off and add some more clothing layers if you get cold.   Keep yourself dry, both from the weather and perspiration. Clothes should fit LOOSE. If your toes get cold, put on a hat! IF YOU'RE DAMP, YOU'RE COLD! NO JEANS OR COTTON!!!! THEY ARE THE WORST IN COLD WEATHER!!!!
Wearing light weight layers works best and will keep you more comfortable

Suggested Clothing Layers

Long thermal underwear(Underarmor works the best!!!!)
Shirt or inner layer
Sweater, light jacket or winter parka
Wind or rain gear
sleepwear- fleece hooded pullover & fleece pants work better than sweats
Pants that can protect from wind or rain
Socks: insulating socks preferred, wool or wool blend, NOT cotton - bring extras to change if toes get cold
Footwear: hiking boots (sneakers are not as insulated)
2 Warm hats(1 for sleeping), gloves or mittens(thinsulated)

ADDITIONAL DO's & DONT's:

These rules will make our trip easier, safer and in general run smoother for everyone.

1. FOOD: if you bring dinner, drinks, snacks, etc. - it must be in a ziplock or paper bag and PLEASE Do NOT put in your backpack. It will be placed in troop cooler before we depart on our trip.

2. Sleeping bags MUST be in a "stuff sack" & tied shut.

3. Foam mats - rolled tight & tied with rope (no strings, rubber bands - they don't last).

4. Clothes should be rolled & packed in gallon ziplock bags. All essentials. Ziplocks bags will keep your clothes dry if it rains or if it is damp out. MUST FIT INTO YOUR LARGE BACKPACK.

5. The following SHOULD BE LEFT HOME: make up & perfume - candy & gum - electronic games - portable radios/CD/DVD players - aerosol bug repellants - hairdryers
