Fire Department Committees


Chief's Dinner

Chair: Dan Engelsman
Members: Ray Bock, Chip Del Coro
Responsibilities: To select a hall and arrange for Chief's Dinner. Hire a band or DJ. Develop "years of service" bars list and obtain bars. Arrange for Culbertson Shoot trophy. Arrange for flowers for guests and tables as needed. Arrange for photo opportunity. Send invitations no later than mid- December.

Firematics

Responsibilities: Attend meetings, organize team and schedule practices. Distribute and collect all Firematics raffle tickets.

Fund Raising

Chair: Liz Stiner
Members: Sue Engelsman
Responsibilities: Kick off fund drive campaign no later than March, send newsletter in July and send fund drive reminder notices no later than November. Research grants, foundations, etc. for operating expenses, equipment, gear, new truck and capital improvements.

Golf Outing

Chair: Joe Sodano
Members: Chip Del Coro, Jim McMahon, George Stiner
Responsibilities: Arrange for golf course. Mail invitations no later than June. Secure sign sponsors and arrange for sign printing as needed. Purchase/solicit gifts prizes. Arrange for food and coordinate with House Committee for social hall set-up.

Good and Welfare

Chair: Dan Engelsman
Members: Craig Miele, George Stiner
Responsibilities: Deliver of messages such as congratulations, get well, sympathy, etc. to members from Fire Company's. Send flower arrangements/fruit baskets when needed. Hang mourning flag from the Fire House as appropriate.

House

Responsibilities: Maintain stock and supplies for the social hall. Have available food at Business Meetings.

Insurance/Legal

Chair: Larry Vastola
Responsibilities: Ensure Fire Company has proper coverage through the Township and arrange for additional coverage if required.

Investigation/Membership

Responsibilities: Follow up on all new applicants. Run credit check and police activity check

Micro Services

Chair: Stacey Felts-Bock
Members: Chip Del Coro
Responsibilities: Maintain and update computer list, data entry and general computer information highway needs.

Miele Field

Responsibilities: Maintain grounds and make recommendations for the potential further Fire Company use of this area.

Nominations

Responsibilities: Select members best suited for any and all positions prior to officer elections.

Publicity/News Releases

Chair: Jim Koons
Members: Paula Del Coro, Bryan Hubbard, Keith Vastola
Responsibilities: Obtain articles of interest to be released to the newspaper that promote the Fire Company. Work closely with all fund raising committee to allow for proper event exposure.

Radio

Chair: Ken Jansen
Members: Tom English, Andrew Jansen
Responsibilities: Ensure all radio equipment is working properly. Keep all Active Members supplied with proper radio equipment. Arrange for pick-up and repair of all damaged/non-working radio equipment. Retrieve radios/pagers from individuals no longer involved with the Fire Company.

Raffle

Chair: Dan Engelsman
Members: Chip Del Coro, Steve Marano, Robert Swenor, George Stiner
Responsibilities: Obtain raffle application and submit to the Township and State no later than February. Check maillist and mail letters to previous raffle ticket purchasers. Arrange for ticket printing with a delivery no later than September. Mail raffle report to State no later than January 15th.

Relief Association

Chair: Dan Engelsman
Members: Bobby Jansen, George Stiner, Keith Vastola
Responsibilities: Attend meetings and keep members informed of proceedings and changes. Follow up with any new members to obtain application and submit any and all paperwork to the Association. Select members to serve on committees of the Association.

Room Usage

Chair: Chip Del Coro
Members: Derek Hendershot, Bobby Jansen, George Stiner
Responsibilities: Arrange and organize the use of the room. Make recommendations as to the cost of the room. Keep log of room use and have associated monies deposited into Annual Operating Fund. Make recommendations for room repair, upgrades, replacements, etc.

Scholarship

Chair: Joe Sodano
Members: Chip Del Coro, Craig Miele,
Responsibilities: Contact Guidance Counselors at Chatham High School and Madison High School no later than November to give criteria guidelines for students to win the scholarship award ($500 per school).

Shoot

Members: George Stiner, Keith Vastola
Responsibilities: Mail invitation to past participants and interested parties. Obtain prizes. Arrange for food. Inventory birds and shells, make purchases as needed. Set up Shoot Field.

Steak & Lobster

Co-Chair: Joe Sodano

Members: Chip Del Coro, Paula Del Coro, Derek Hendershot, Bob Jansen, Bob Swenor
Responsibilities: Inventory supplies and equipment. Make arrangements for purchase/donation of food, supplies and equipment. Borrow required equipment from New Vernon Fire Department. Solicit High School Key Clubs for help. Plan work details for set-up and clean-up.

Tree Lighting

Chair: George Stiner
Members: Derek Hendershot, Craig Miele, Jeff Zalis
Responsibilities: Coordinate with Chatham Borough Fire Department to hang lights from the tree no later than mid-November. Order candy and stockings for pick-up no later than mid-November. Make arrangements to borrow sleigh. Publicize in local newspapers prior to event. Coordinate with Green Village United Methodist Church's Hot Dog Supper. Coordinate with Auxiliary the placement of the Christmas Tree, back-drop, etc.

Truck

Responsibilities: Plan and advise membership as to replacement schedule of trucks. Identify needs of the Fire Company and make recommendations for new vehicles. Develop budget for purchases.

Uniforms

Responsibilities: Order and maintain supplies of badges and uniform decorations.

Responsibilities: Choose an event/performance to see and procure tickets. Secure transportation. Set price of ticket. Arrange for advertising/publicity of event. Arrange for, collect monies from and track ticket sales.

Responsibilities: Inform of special meetings and/or events or request support as directed by an Officer or Committee Chair.

Emergency Support

Responsibilities: Provide food, beverages or other services at the request of the Fire Company during an emergency. Start phone chain to organize additional Auxiliary members if necessary.

Fire Department Gift

Responsibilities: Gather suggestions and investigate options in a variety of price ranges for a yearly gift to the Fire Department. (Actual amount to spend will be voted on a the November meeting.) Arrange for purchase/delivery of gift.

Garage Sale

Chair: Janet Doherty
Members: Gail Swenor, Susan Willshaw
Responsibilities: Coordinate date with Fire Department. Sell tables in advance, coordinate set-up and clean-up. Arrange publicity of event.

Ice Cream Social

Chair: Liz Stiner
Members: Janet Doherty, Diane Hinds
Responsibilities: Coordinate activities and set-up with Fire Department. Inventory supplies. Purchase ice cream, toppings and supplies as needed. Coordinate clean-up.

National Night Out

Chair: Peggy Fawcett
Members: Angela Bassolino, Judy Krickus, Amanda Swenor, Gail Swenor, Susan Willshaw
Responsibilities: Coordinate set-up and food with Fire Department. Purchase beverages. Coordinate clean-up.

Nominating

Chair: Liz Stiner
Members:
Responsibilities: Receive and accept verbal or written nominations for officers anytime before the slate has been accepted. Obtain or verify acceptance of all nominees. Post a slate of all nominees for each office at the commencement of the September meeting. Amend said slate as additional nominees are accepted.

Paper Shredding Event

Chair: Liz Stiner
Members: Susan Willshaw
Responsibilities: Verify fire house is available on the day of the event. Arrange for a Shred-It truck to be on-site. Advertise event via newspaper, e-mails, school flyers etc. at least 1 month in advance. Collect monies at event. Help load boxes & bags onto truck lift for shredding. Clean-up.

Public Relations

Chair: Peggy Fawcett
Members: Liz Stiner (Back-up)
Responsibilities: Prepare and deliver monthly news and meeting notification for the Spire. Notification of events to be included in the Spire should be turned in no later than the 2nd Wednesday of the month.

Sunshine

Chair: Janet Doherty
Members: Liz Stiner (Back-up)
Responsibilities Responsible for delivering messages such as congratulations, get well wishes, messages of sympathy, etc.

Tree Lighting

Chair: Kathie Matrale
Members: Angela Bassolino, Debbie Bucuk, Diane Hinds, Judy Krickus, Gail Swenor, Susan Willshaw
Responsibilities Arrange for advertising/publicity. Set-up and remove Christmas Tree. Purchase snacks and beverages. Set-up and clean up snacks and beverages.



Regular drills are held on Tuesday evenings from 7pm until 9pm.

Fire Department business meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 8pm.

Auxiliary business meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every other month at 7:30pm beginning in January.
