GYMNASTICS POLICIES and GUIDELINES FOR HOMESCHOOLERS

General Information Regarding the Homeschool Gymnastics Program: North Stars Gymnastics Academy makes available three gymnastics sessions to homeschooled students: Mondays and Wednesdays 2:00-3:00; Fridays 12:00-2:00. These classes are considered "recreational" and do not follow a competitive track. (Should you desire a competitive program, enroll through North Stars' regular, non-homeschool program.) To qualify for the homeschooling program, you must be currently enrolled and maintain membership in a local homeschool support group. No one who has all school-aged children enrolled in a non-homeschool environment can enroll their preschool children in this homeschool gymnastic program; these children must go through North Stars' regular gymnastic program.
SPECIFIC GUIDELINES

Class distribution: Your homeschool coordinators can assist you once classes begin; North Stars' instructors make class placements at the time of registration. Please be aware that INDIVIDUAL REQUESTS regarding teacher and/or classmate preferences CANNOT BE MADE: DO NOT ASK FOR SPECIAL CLASS PLACEMENTS. Also, let your child/ren know that each time a session changes, or when doing a make-up, children might not continue in the same class with same teacher and/or same classmates.

Dress: Dress for class appropriately: NO SOCKS or tights, NO loose clothing, NO jeans, NO metal zippers, belts, or jewelry. Boys may wear sweatpants. Girls with shoulder-length hair or longer, must have it pulled back or tied up.

Eating: Eating is allowed in the UPSTAIRS WAITING AREA ONLY; NO eating is allowed downstairs.

Make-Up Classes: Plan ahead! Each enrolled child is allowed 2 make-ups WITHIN the 10-wk session - no carry-overs. MAKE-UPS MUST BE SCHEDULED through the gym! DO NOT JUST SHOW UP as your child will NOT be placed in a class. You must call to schedule a make-up with the gym secretary. NO ONE JUST SHOWING UP FOR AN UNSCHEDULED MAKE-UP WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE.

"Mom and Me" Classes: Moms are required to assist all 2-year-olds and any older child who STILL NEEDS ASSISTANCE. Teachers will determine whether or not any child can be independent of Mom. In these Mom and Me classes, the mother simply assists the child on the gym floor at all his stations. As soon as the child shows independence, Mom is free to observe in the waiting area.

Parking Lot: ALL CHILDREN MUST BE ESCORTED BY PARENTS OR GUARDIANS to and from the gym building while in the parking lot area. Also, there is to be NO PLAYING in the parking lot. This parking lot receives a good deal of traffic and supervision by parents is necessary to maintain safety.

Payment and Waivers: Both full payment and waiver forms (waiver is same form as registration form) must received before children can participate on the gym floor AT ALL. Payment is due two weeks before the first day of each session. Separate waivers must be filled out for EACH child and are good for the entire current school year.

Registration: Registration must be done via the "Registration/Waiver Form" which can be picked up from North Stars Gym directly, or found in the NJHSA (North Jersey Home Schoolers' Assn) newsletter, prior to the beginning of each gym session. This Registration/Waiver Form is due TWO WEEKS prior to the start of any given session. Registration closes two weeks prior to the first class of the session. You may register for only one session at a time. Enrollment is based on a first-come, first-served basis, and spots for the next session are available first to those who are currently enrolled, then on a first-come, first-served basis for those new to the homeschool gymnastics program.

Re-Registration: occurs when a participant re-enrolls during the same school year. The participant must fill out a "Re-Registration Form", available from North Stars. No additional waiver is necessary during the same school year. Participants may register for only one session at a time.

COMMUNICATION: ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST FURNISH A CURRENT e-mail ADDRESS. If there is no home e-mail, please provide a business or friend's e-mail address.

Snow Days: North Stars RARELY cancels their classes, however you can LISTEN TO YOUR RADIO FOR CLOSINGS: FM 105.5, AM 1250. After 9:00 am you can call North Stars for a cancellation message on their machine: 973-316-2507, choice #2. A make-up day will be arranged for homeschoolers if there is a snow day called by North Stars; specifics will be announced after such cancellation occurs.

Time Slots: For all classes that run for two hours, the age distribution for the 2 time slots is as follows: *Generally*, children age 2-6 are scheduled in co-ed classes at the earlier time slot, and they are grouped according to AGE; ages 7 and up at the later time slot are scheduled in gender-specific groups, and are grouped according to ABILITY. This holds true for make-up classes as well. Occasionally, 6-year-olds will be slated at later time slot, if enrollment numbers require, and 7 year olds might likewise need to be slated for the earlier time slot.

Waiting Areas: Children not involved in gym or those waiting for their class should STAY in the UPSTAIRS waiting area. Non-participating children and parents MAY NOT CONGREGATE DOWNSTAIRS!!!!. Children in the upper-level waiting area MUST BE SUPERVISED. There is to be no running at any time.
Inquiries/Questions/Comments: Please direct all inquiries through any of the homeschool coordinators to relate to North Stars. You can use the Comments Box at the bottom of the Home Page.

Final Note: We model "homeschooling" to many non-homeschoolers during our time at North Stars. Keeping that in mind, please be considerate, and clean up before you leave, especially after eating!!! Put toys away; and in general, return the area in BETTER condition than you found it!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION AND COOPERATION! We certainly hope you enjoy your participation at North Stars!
