THIS SERVICE PROJECT PAGE ALSO INCLUDES LOCAL PROJECTS YOUR TROOP MAY WANT TO GET INVOLVED IN CLOTHING DRIVE Troop 355 is running a clothing drive to help the Ocean Christian Community Church on Washington Street in Toms River Every month the church opens a food pantry and a clothing distribution center for people in our community that are in need. We are looking for the following: any articles of clothing(winter), coats, shoes, boots, gloves, hats, scarfs, blankets, sleeping bags, etc. THE CLOTHING DOES NOT NEED TO BE NEW All we are asking for is the clothing that does fit anymore, or the clothing that hangs in the closet year after year that needs a good home. We have a good home for those lonely clothes Please bring all items to the next Service Unit Meeting or call 732-341-6369 OLD SOCKS NEEDED Troop 503 is trying to get some supplies together for our Community Service Project Night and we are in need of any Unwanted, Unloved and Unmatched SOCKS!! You can drop off any of these socks on my front porch ~ there will be a box there for you to put them in!! Also if anyone has any card making supplies that they would like to donate, you can drop that off too!! SAVE YOUR BOTTLE CAPS Troop 68 is collecting caps to be recycled. Please help them out by asking your troop to save the caps and please bring them to the SU meetings and give them to Debbie G. Often these caps end up as litter or trash, ending up in landfills and beaches or migrating into our rivers and oceans. Birds and other marine creatures mistake them for food with tragic results. The magnitude of this pollution problem is devastating to our oceans and wildlife. What type of caps do we collect? Rigid polypropylene plastic, sometimes noted with a 5 in the chasing arrows recycling symbol. This includes caps that twist on with a threaded neck such as caps on shampoo, water, soda, milk and other beverage bottles, flip top caps on tubes and food product bottles (such as ketchup and mayonnaise), laundry detergents and some jar lids such as peanut butter . Excluded from collection are pharmaceutical lids and non rigid lids such as yogurt lids, tub lids (margarine, cottage cheese), and screw on lids that are not rigid. If you can bend or break the lid with your bare hands, then it does not meet the rigid plastic definition. Please do not include any metal lids or plastic pumps or sprayers. Unfortunately, too much of the wrong types of materials can contaminate the recycling process. We appreciate your efforts in keeping it clean! We need gardening and painting on a regular basis. School Time Wishes: We are in great need for school supplies. . I am reaching out to you to scan the area for people and businesses to assist in collecting school supplies for the youth we serve. The supplies we use most often, but not limited to, are calculators, index cards (both sm & lg), three ring binders, loose leaf paper, yearly calendar planners, pens, pencils, tape, glue, poster board, book covers, markers, construction paper. Craft Kits: When it's a rainy day, or there is some down time at the shelter, the youth look for things to keep themselves busy or keep their mind off of heavy topics. Craft kits or materials for craft projects are great to have around. Items could include but are not limited to: yarn, felt drawings pads, color/paint by number, tie dye and T-shirts or pillowcases, doodle books, crossword & word search books, beads for jewelry, pillow stuffing, sewing material, needles & thread, scrapbooking scissors & accessories. Birthday Party Kits: We like to celebrate the youth's birthdays when they are with us. A generic kit of items to hold a birthday party would be great. Suggested items may include but not be limited to: Birthday card for a teenager, party table cloth, plates, napkins, cups, party favors, cake mix, gift card to a youth friendly store, balloons Welcome Kits: These kits will be given out to each newcomer to the shelter. A plastic tote containing toiletry items, and possibly a new set of twin sheets or a hand and bath towel & washcloth would be a great welcome gift. Collect Lollipops, or toiletries for the youth. By submitting a message through this special site sponsored by Xerox, you have the opportunity to send a free personalized postcard greeting to deployed servicemen and women. The postcards, depicting patriotic scenes and hometown images, were selected from a pool of entries from children across the country. All you have to do is click on your favorite design and either select the message that best expresses your sentiment or draft a personal note. This is something every Girl Scout can do to tell our military troops overseas that we care about them.
