    HUGS

HUGS- Help Us Grow Stronger! We are asking that at your first parent meeting that you give out the HUGS envelopes to every family in your troop. The generous donations given by the families say in our Council and is used to provide programing within our own Council.

As a Service Unit we are offering an incentive to all the troops. If your troop has 100% participation than your troop will be entered into a drawing for a $25.00 gift card. To qualify for the drawing your envelopes need to be in by the October Meeting.

A NOTE FROM BJ & LORI

We want to get a jump start on our Succession Planning!! This means that it is BJ and my last year as Co-Service Unit Managers. We would like to get some of our new members more involved with our Service Unit. A lot of the leaders who are always involved are approaching the last couple of years for their troops. That means we need new blood and younger troop leaders to get more involved so as to keep Sugarberry Growing Strong!

So please give it some thought and get in touch with BJ or me about any position you may like to take on for next year. This is the only way to keep our Service Unit moving on ~ by planning ahead and getting people trained before they get thrown into a position.

Remember we do this for the girls....all the girls...not just our own daughters!! If you are interested in any positions now or for next year, please get in touch with me or BJ.

Thank you and see you on August 18th!! Lori & BJ

    NEW DELEGATES

At our April Service Unit Meeting we elected our Delegates for the 2009-2010 year. Our newly elected delegates terms begin on June 1st.

Our new delegates are: Fran W.(Convener), Chelsea M., BJ W., Girl Delegate- Tiffany O.(Troop 355), and Susan B. alternate delegate.

    TRAINING FOR NEW PROGRAM

All leaders have to take the new Journey training. Council will be checking records to make sure that everyone has taken it either on-line or in person at Council. If you have taken the training on-line and you want to make sure that it went through, please check with either Kelly McGraw or Virginia Sweeney, they can let you know if your training went through.

    Holiday Party

At our December Service Unit Meeting we will be having a Holiday Party. It will be a pot-luck dinner, bring your favorite dish but no desserts. We will also be having a cookie swap. Make 2 dozen of your favorite special recipe and swap with the other leaders.

Bring your daughter, let her take part in all the fun! What would a Holiday Party be without a grab bag. There will be two grab bags- one for the adults, bring a wrapped gift valued at $10.00 and one for the girls. Have your daughter bring a wrapped $5.00 gift. It is always fun to see what everyone gets.
    See you at the Party!

    NUT SALES

Nuts/Magazine Sales begin September 15th to October 18th. All orders must be into Joan by Wednesday, Oct. 21st. You can continue to sell nuts after this time but you must submit additional orders directly to council. But Oct 21st is the last day to turn in magazine orders. If anyone order directly online a copy of those orders also must be turned into Joan.
Booth Sales are from November 13 - 23rd. You must fill out a booth sales form and drop it off at Council at least 1 week prior to the sale. All troop interestd in have booth sales need to secure their own locations.

Nut Depot will be on Wednesday, November 11th at the Pleasant Plains Fire House on Clayton Road in Toms River, time TBA. If you can help at the Nut Depot Please contact Joan.

    Good Luck to Your Troop!!!

    MY GIRL SCOUT PIN

My Girl Scout pin is small in size,
But so many things are tucked inside.
Courage, honor and fairness, so true,
Make the world a better place...

    That’s what I will do!
It means I am friendly to all who I know,
Considerate and caring wherever I go.

It holds a pledge that I will be strong,
And do what is right when things go all wrong.

It’s sisterhood, adventure, discovery and fun,
It’s knowing much more when the day is done.

If everyone would follow the Girl Scout way,
    Wouldn’t we have a wonderful U.S. of A?

    author Carol Lee Spages

    Awards Committee

That time of year is just around the corner and we need your help. The service unit needs to get a committee together to start thinking about our year end awards ceremony.

We would like to have at least one person from each school on the committee. No one knows the leaders in your school better than yourselves. Please, your help is needed and we want to make sure that those who work so hard get recognized.

    NEW IN SCOUTING

Girl Scout Levels have changed as of
    October 1, 2009

    Community Service Event

On a very rainy and windy night over 100 people came out to our Service Units first Community Service Event. We would like to thank everyone for braving the weather and to the Evergreen and Holly Service Units for their help.
    Great job Lori.
