Our Anniversary Poem

"Listen my ladies and you shall hear
A poem that celebrates our fifth year
Now what do you think of that?
A year that has seen things up and things down
As we sashayed and scurried all around town
Each in a fancy red hat
The struggle's no longer for vanity
But for mental and physical sanity
For life's a hilarious riot!
So now, once again, we meet and we pray
That we'll all meet again a year from today
So exercise and watch diet
That may be what will do it
And we (I) must get to it
We only go this way once
So we revel today in how far we have come
And life's great if we can get through it!

ABOUT US

  The Las Vegas Amaryllis Belladonnas/"Naked Ladies" are a 5 year old official chapter of THE RED HAT SOCIETY. The RHS is based on the poem,"WARNING", by Jenny Joseph, where she humorously describes how she feels about growing older. We are a dynamic group of ladies who are young at heart, fun-loving, and 'in training' for when we get 'old'. None of us look a day over fifty (okay, fifty-one!) We believe in celebrating life, and take advantage of every opportunity to do so. Frequently, we go to events at the drop of a RED hat, but usually our outings take place once a month. Tea parties, the ballet, opera, eating out, comedy shows, road trips, camping & cruises, are some of our favorite things. We are young at heart, and fun-loving. We are a 'Sisterhood' who embrace our differences, and are open to new experiences. We attend all public 'fun'ctions DRESSED in RED hats and purple outfits. We love to laugh! "WARNING"!!! WE LIVE OUR LIVES TO THE FULLEST, AND MAKE ABSOLUTELY NO APOLOGIES!

OUR NAME
THE AMARYLLIS BELLADONNA

*Common name:belladonna lily, March lily, naked lady.

Amaryllis is Greek feminine and is named after a beautiful shepherdess. The specific epithet belladonna means beautiful lady. The appearance of the tall, flower stalk without any leaves accounts for the common name "naked lady". In a created landscape, Amaryllis can be used mixed in between blue Agapanthus as a good combination, as the evergreen leaves provide skirts for the naked ladies. Although most of the ABs are pale and dark pinks, they also grow in white and purple. But our favorite is the brilliant RED!
