WE ARE LOOKING FOR GARAGE/STORAGE SPACE

It is our dream to find a building where we could store boats over the winter, especially our power boats.

During our off-seasons, the club boats are scattered across the area - mostly in people's backyards - and even though they are covered with tarps, the weather takes its toll on their condition.

If anyone has any garage space they could let us use, please contact the registrar.

We can even use a small garage space with electricity where we could do repairs on the various boats during the course of the winter.

Please let us know if you have a space we could use.

Thank you for your support of the Bellport Bay Sailing Foundation.

J.C. HERMUS WINS AGAIN!

BBSF and BBYC's own J.C.Hermus has won the title of New York State Optimist Champion!

Racing was held in Oyster Bay this October, and once again BBSF and BBYC's own raced his way to first place!

CONGRATULAIONS J.C.!

In addition, after an amazing finish at Southeast Opti Champs, J.C. has qualified to be part of the U.S. Optimist team competing at the South American National Optimist Championship. He will be heading to Argentina to compete against the world's best opti racers this coming March.

GOOD LUCK J.C.!

Private lessons for adults and children are available upon request.

Sailors on a mercury

Beginners always start in a mercury sailboat like the one pictured above.
Sailors can choose to attend session 1, session 2 or both sessions at a discounted price.

After two sessions of sailing (one or two years) a mercury and with instructors' approval, you can choose to continue in that boat or move to a single-handed Optimist.
The optimist is sailed around the globe by children ages 8-15. Since this is the best boat for young people to gain skill, we encourage children up to age 15 to continue racing their Optimists since there is good competition on the Great South Bay and beyond in the Optimist Class. As sailors improve their skills in the opti, they find they can master very windy conditions and learn advanced techniques in a boat that is sized just right for them. The top sailors compete in the opti until they age out or until they no longer fit comfortably in the boat (over 5'3" and over 115-120 pounds.)

Optis on the Bay

When your teen is over 5'3" and weighs approximately 115-120 pounds, it may be time to move onto a double-handed 420.

This is a high school and college racing boat. Sailors should weigh 100 pounds minimum before considering this class.

Teens on a 420

Please note that space for both club boats and privately owned boats is limited.
Therefore class size must be limited as well.

2011 Program Dates:
Session 1: Monday June 27th through Tuesday July 19th
Session 2: Wednesday July 20th through Thursday, August 11th.

The 1-4 Opti and 420 classes are Intro to Racing classes.
It is expected that sailors will compete in the Wednesday night races at the dock and be willing to attend some Friday regattas at yacht clubs across the south shore. p>Opti 1-4 class is only for those experienced opti sailors who have taken 8-10 and 10-12 classes or the equivalent at a different yacht club. Please contact the registrar if you are interested in this class.

The Mercury program will run as it did last year. You can choose from session 1, session 2 or both.

420s
Remember: the 420 is a high school/college racing boat. It is designed to be sailed by teens who are over 5'3" and weigh at least approximately 115-120 pounds.

As it states on the 420 registration form, children who sailed in optis last year OR who are repeating a morning 420 class should register for the 10 to noon time slot.
All others who have not yet taken a 420 class at BBSF should contact the registrar for guidance. (bbsfregistrar@gmail.com)
Like opti classes, 420 classes are now 7 weeks in length.

Laser Race Team will remain the same: 10 - 4 pm Monday through Thursday.
